Oh, boy, rant time!!! This pairing offends me as both a fangirl and a writer. As a fangirl, it frustrates me that the two people I want to be with Duncan the most can't be with him because they're with EACH OTHER. Everytime they get on screen together I want to jump into the TV, shake them both, and scream, "Love Duncan! One of you love Duncan, damn it! I don't care which one!"

I'm not saying they HAVE to be with Duncan or no one at all-- if this was written better, I could get behind Scourtney. Which leads me to the main reason for my dislike. As a writer, I'm sorry, but I just cannot get behind a pairing that makes one or both characters act incredibly out of character-- especially when these two in particular are two of the most interesting characters in the damn series (in my opinion). Not only is Scott way fucking dumber around Courtney than he really is, he's also lost his deviousness and his mean streak. In TDRI, Dawn called Scott a sociopath. She can see people's auras and their true selves-- she wouldn't say something like that if she didn't believe it. The writers know this. I'm not saying they should treat Scott like a full blown sociopath, but they should have incorperated his uncaring nature and his lack of empathy into his romantic life.

My guess is that they had no idea how to write Scott in a relationship, so they stuck with the generic 'dumbass in love' character. Scott CAN be written realistically and romantically. Plenty of people on FFn have done it. I've read it. I've WRITTEN t. I see no reason why the writers decided to be so lazy as to completely exaggerate Scott's clumsiness into full-blown idiocy.

For that matter, Courtney would never be with someone so stupid! Why would she date someone she can't carry a conversation with? She completely disregarded Duncan's piercings and green mohak and fell in love with him anyway, so she's not superficial. Scott doesn't have any money, so it's not for that. She has no reason to date him outside of either A. Manipulating him into an alliance or B. She gets along well with him, which SHE DOESN'T. They've never had a real full conversation, actually. They basically just said, "You think I'm cute, I think you're cute, let's go out." Which, while typical of the average teenager (and, admittedly, I can see Scott saying that), is absolutely NOT like Courtney at all. The fact that they're going to end up together-- come on, it's inevitable, even with their current 'break up'-- is just one more reason I don't like this season. Not only are they screwing with my OTP and current favorite slash pairing, they're screwing with two characters I love to death, too!

*phew* Okay. Glad I got that out of my system. Now, tell me what you think of Scourtney in the comments.
