Not trying to be biased or rude or anything but I do think it was cause of Stelena. The promo was very focused on them and the only 2 stills we got were them. So it gave the impression that the episode would be more about them than anything else.

Its cuz the CW releases those boring trailers and no clips so people assume that the episode will be boring! Hopefully they bring back the clips!!! This is just sad hopefully next week will be an improvement! I feel sad :(

I know that there are fans out that like them. And they deserve to see their couple. But still a lot of fans just does not care about them. And the media has been critical to. So I truly believe that this is the reason.

I get what you are saying. But fans can be different. If you are a fan of the whole show and everything they do. You will probably watch every episode.

As for me I am more critical. I do not like everything on TVD. I do not care much for the werewolves or Stelena. So I could have skipped this episode. But I am glad I didn't. Because there were some really useful information to the plot and some other great scenes. Oh and the kiss between Jeremy and Bonnie:)

most people who watch the show aren't hardcore fans like us who would watch any episode...they watch to be entertained, and if they don't expect any entertainment or it lacks entertainment, they simply change the channel.

And Talice. I do not think it has to do with DE fans. I know quite a few viewers that do not ship anyone in particular but they find Stelena boring. It was the same way for me. I found Stelena to be the worst part of the show when I started watching. Luckily I could ignore that. Because there were other great things.

SE were very heavily advertised for 2X14's promo. A lot more than usual. Delena fans, as much as many hate to hear, are the majority of viewers for TVD. All Stelena and no Delena? = low ratings.

Season one they would've maintained it. Another season later with the soppy, lovely-love, far-too-perfect couple and giving them pretty much a WHOLE episode alone just isn't what people want anymore. Stelena are wearing thin.

However next weeks episode looks like it may throw a spanner into the works for Stelena. Which will bring them to life a bit. If Elena doesn't bat an eyelid at Stefan's actions, then the writers are walking on very, very thin ice because Stelena is like flogging a dead horse these days.

I know as a SE fan you probably disagree with this, but Stefan&Elena scenes are always the same, so it's not so much the lack of DE, as it is people not being interested enough in SE. So to answer your question, yes. If they advertise this couple to the extent that they did for 2x14 with the promo pics and preview, i wouldn't be surprised if it happened again.

It was because of all the Stelena promotion. But it's a gay fucking reason not to watch the show. You don't whine, pout, or refuse to watch just because something you don't like or aprove of is going to happen. Hell, if that were the case, I wouldn't be watching half of the episodes. But tuning out because of Stelena?... way to be mature. But you know what, the less Stelena haters watching, the better. Then I don't have to put up with their bullshit about the episode recap (although, it is a bit amusing when they still give their opinions, even though they didn't actually watch it).

That must be the reason. I am not shipping Damon and Elena. I just ship Elena with anyone but Stefan. They just does not have what it takes.
And please criticize characters, couples, plots all you want. They are fictional and we are allowed to be critical. The less people that watch, the lower rating. They then may be canceled. So they better step up their game.

If recall I correctly, 1x11 didn't do too well either 3.01 million which is the third lowest. It was advertised as mainly Delena. I think the deal is that they have to have a good mix of Stelena and Delena. Not just that but a good mix of Damon and Stefan. Other wise peole just wont watch.

No matter how much people hate a couple, they dont stop watching because of them! If they do then they are only occasional fans anyways! Also the CW put out boring promos for every TVD episode! Also its the CW the ratings are always going to differ and be lower than other networks!

Season 1 ratings is totally different. The show was just beginning to find its feet and its fans. And the Stefan/Elena story still had, well, A STORY.

Oh and also, the show was well advertised with the "Catch VD" ads bringing attention (like that ad or not, an ad is supossed to bring attention to the product and it did just that, bring attention) but the fans that always follow the show want to see new stuff about the episode that's going to air not just a provocative ad... Only promotional photos and 20-or-30-seconds-long promos and no sneaks peeks since 2x12 (almost two months without any new clip)... TVD used to have 2 (and sometimes 3). I don't think only this justifies the rating low but it's important in my opinion...

Why pin this all on DE fans? Noone is saying that DE fans werent watching. From the looks of it on this spot they were watching. It was the overly sweet and cheesy Stefan and Elena moments that pulled the ratings down. I am sure of it. I dont ship anyone. I watch the show for vampire action. I used the SE moments to do other stuff around the house. Elijah ruled the show. Who wants to see sweet vampire moments? Give us some action and give us the old Damon back. Everything is not SE vs DE. I am tired of these shipping wars. Some of us are watching for good storytelling. Don´t be so biased because you ship a couple. That is just ignorant. Face the facts, the writers are selling SE. Most viwers aint buying.

If Stelena is really the reason...we have some problems. You can't call yourself a 'real' VD fan if you stop watching just because the rival couple gets some screentime. There were Stelena scenes from the beginning and also 2.11 had loow ratings and they made it look like it was a Delena episode. So stop blaming them, EVERY show on Thursday had low ratings. The people who stopped watching/didn't watch weren't necessarily DE fans or "real" VD fans. Anyone who's here right now is a hardcore fan of the show and watches it every week no matter what. But the majority of people who watch it, don't watch it for any ships, they watch it to be entertained. So when right from the start of the show the storyline is floppy people just change the channel. And nobody is saying that those that do are "real" fans.
2.11 was advertised as tomb sex, yeah a little DE but not as much as SE was for 2x14. And yes every show that night had a 5-10% drop in the ratings. And if that had happened for TVD I wouldn't even be saying this, but TVD had a 20% drop. I'm obviously not saying it's all because of SE, but I do think they do have something to do with it.

Iam a Forwood fan and truely I dont really care about the about the Damon/Elena/Stefan love triangle but I have to admitt that Stelena is boring and annoying while Delena is way more interesting

The thing is, 2x14 was crap over all. Stelena took A LOT of the episode up, and people are tired of repetitive storylines which they take up. There's nothing new with them and there comes a time when people get sick of it. People, there are different types of fans for any show. There are some who watch it for the couples or characters, some who watch it for the actual story, and some who watch it for both. (I saw that on the Office fan page.)
It doesn't matter if you're a "true fan" or not, it depends on what their opinions are and how they view the show. If they watch it for the couples, then DE fans will get scared off because it's not what they want to watch. If they watch it for the story and vampires, then they still might get scared off because of the heavy chessiness of Stelena in the promo and lack of vampire action.

I watch it for both, but I didn't get to watch it on Thursday because I had this thing to go to, but I watched it eventually. I thought it was really boring, so people who watch it for "entertainment", as I've seen in comments, might have stopped watching just because they got bored.

I doubt that made any sense since I'm really tired at the moment...

With the exception of the first six episodes, I thought Season 2 was FLAT, dull, lackluster.

Speaking for myself, I work long hours on Thursdays and Fridays; and I'm surprised that many of the fans who responded to similar questions by the OP weren't obliged to work during hours in which TVD is showcase. I guess people have a lot of time on their hands but speaking for myself. I just didn't have the time to remember to rec (haven't really, for a quite some time) and there's a lot of things going.

If part of the demography of TVD viewers encompass viewers in my situation, than I would certainly understand why the ratings have continually dipped to its lowest point. Oh, and I do think TVD needs to pick up the pace and change the direction of the show....its extremely repetitious. Anyway...
