it was too messy so the story didn't flow as well as it should have

^^^I didnt find it messy..Its just there really wasnt any new information to make it confusing.

Simple-Homecoming Dance was canceled purposely by Klaus who was tricked to come back by Stefan and Rebekah so Mikeal could kill him..and etc...There was really no new info it was just following up on previous information

it really was not that confusing every episode seems to have a lot of info by the end everything came together so i don't see it as messy or confusing

I think the writers have been really bad about the follow through for awhile. Hybrids are supposed to be these amazingly strong creatures so how did Damon kill ne so easily? Using the knife would kill a vampire so why not the stake? Vampires have superior hearing so how the heck did Stefan/Damon not hear/smell the werewolf ambush in 2x13? How the heck did Klaus not hear/smell Elena in 3x03? Artistic liscense I guess.
