Okay. All this “Damon doesn’t respect Elena’s decisions” BS needs to stop (but it won’t). Damon lets Elena make decisions, but he just challenges her stupid ones:

—Damon offered to help Elena forget Stefan being compelled in the gym, and she said no.
—Damon, even back in S1, listened to Elena when she told him that he can’t compel Jeremy to stop looking for Vicki.
—Asking Elena what she thought about using herself as bait in s1 at the dance to lure out that mysterious vampire who was stalking her.
—He listened to Elena about compelling Jeremy in 3x10.
—Damon listened to Elena about not causing trouble with Uncle John when he returned: “I’m just going to have a civil conversation with your father.”
—Oh, and Elena wanted to lock Stefan up in s1 and s3. Both times Damon helped her: “I’ll do whatever it is you need me to do, Elena.”
—Let’s see.. OH, and then we have the “You don’t have to see her [Isobel] if you don’t want to.”
—And then we have Damon respecting Elena’s decision to hunt after Stefan in a werewolf-infested mountain (even though it was stupid).
—And then Damon going along with Elena by helping her talk to Stefan, risking his life with Klaus in the process.
—Elena not wanting Damon to kill Tyler.

Stupid decisions that Damon challenged:
—Elena wanting to sneak into a house full of vampires to save Stefan. I bet things would have gone a lot differently (regarding the episodes that followed) if Elena had listened to him. Oh, and after Elena did break into the house, Damon respected her decision to participate in the rescue. Granted, it ended horribly for SE and started Stefan’s blood phase #1. So initially, Elena should have listened to Damon.
—Undaggering Elijah/trusting Elijah. He rescued Klaus and broke his word. Damon ended up being right (the bloodlines factor is beside the point).
—Damon preventing Elena from becoming a snack for Katherine in the tomb.
—Elena sacrificing herself. Stupid because it didn’t necessarily mean that Klaus was going to leave everyone she loved alone after she died. Also silly because of the people she’d be leaving behind. And as a side note: Stefan gave her crap for it at first as well.
—Elena going to the ball in 3x14 to meet with Ester without a plan. Ended up being stupid because the moment she linked all the originals, the next couple episodes were trying to undo it because Elena didn’t want Elijah to die. And then they added that whole bloodline plot. End of the day, Damon was right.
—Trusting Elijah with Klaus in the s3 finale. A bit of a stretch, but if Elena and the gang had talked this over and tried to come up with a different plan, perhaps Rebekah wouldn’t have caused WB#2. Either way, it was stupid because everyone’s lives were going to be affected (and it was all in Elena’s hands?) and at the end of the day, Damon was right. “His lunatic siblings will kill you the first chance they get!” I swear the writers are doing this on purpose.

I’m sure there are more. I’ll probably be thinking about this all day. Would it be bad of me to say that Stefan is just a doormat? - credit to someone from tumblr
