in vampire diaries book the awakening and the struggle why does elena try to kill stefan after she becomes a vampire

She is confused and thinks Damon is her lover and Stefan tries to kill him so she wants to kill him cuz she wants to save Damon ;) its my favorite part of the book xD

Because she belives that Damon is her love, and she trys to kill him because she is trying to protect Damon
