The Vampire Diaries TV Show Question

Hey, guys ! I just rewatched the Disturbing Behavior. there's something that I don't get :/

I keep wondering what Klaus meant by saying : "To write a name on a wall, it's a long story" ?

I played the scene over and over again but still don't get it . everyone on the comments section understand it :/
seriously, that's frustating :(

It must of took Stefan a long time to get that list completed and a long time to kill that many people
