I'm confused. Is Stefan's humanity back already? Can he care now?

I think his personality is back,but he can't always be sweet Stefan who always does good...He's not perfect :)

Even though I'm a Damon/Elena fan, I was pretty pissed when Stefan chose the cowards way out, never even attempting to deal with his emotions. They say our character is determined by our actions after bad shit happens. From my experience, that's true. I wounder what that says about Stefan's character.
