Hi guys, today I thought I want to write in a different for change. This article is basically base on the striking similarities with Disney's Sleeping Beauty and The Swan Princess.

The Story

When I watch the Swan Princess for the first time in so many years, the story bears a striking resemblance to Disney's Sleeping Beauty. Especially when young Derek meets baby Odette, it was very similar to young Prince Philip meeting baby Aurora. Indicating that both princes are betrothed to Odette and Aurora.
The final scene reminds me of when Prince Philip fights Maleficent when she was turn into a dragon, and thus breaking the spell and getting a Happy Ending that we always wanted to have.

The Characters

Odette eerily resembles Princess Aurora mainly because of their wavy, blonde hairstyle, I think that the latter is much prettier than Odette! Sadly, Odette's dad died while both confronted the great beast which it is in fact Rothbath the evil wizard.
Speaking of Rothbath, he eerily reminds me of Maleficent mainly of their great powers and that they transformed into a mystical creature in the end to confront both princes.
Queen Uberta is the comical version of Princess Aurora's mother, Queen Leah because the former gets more screen-time sadly. I would imitate her when I was very young and she really cheers me up!
Prince Philip and Derek are quite similar in a way, they're both optimistic and proactive. They also save their respective loved ones and they came back to life with a true love's kiss!

Tchaikovsky's Ballet

Coincidentally, both films are base on Tchaikovsky's ballet, the Swan Princess was known as Swan Lake while Sleeping Beauty still remains under the same title, unlike Sleeping Beauty. The music in the Swan Princess didn't borrow music from it's original ballet as it is considered dark and sinister for a family friendly movie, would you love to go to see them one day?
