Hi guys, I managed to get into the Christmas spirit by watching this 2004 Christmas film, the Polar Express. It was a very touching film that I nearly cried at the end leading up to it's famous theme song, Believe!
Story-Line
Unlike many Christmas movies, this film was really about doubting or not whether Santa Claus really exists or not, the story also reminds me of another Christmas movie that I still cherishes from my childhood, the Snowman. Unlike the Snowman, the protagonist does not have a snowman that comes to life and takes to the North Pole. The Polar Express train arrives instead!
He also makes some new friends in the train and learns how to drive a train with the help of Hero Girl, and I also feel bad for Billy being the only boy in the carriage to sit alone.
The spookiest part was the scene where the ghost appear on top of the train, especially the scene where he imitates the puppet of Ebenezer Scrooge. In fact, I thought it was Jim Carrey as Scrooge (ironically, he would play the role in the Disney's 2009 reboot of A Christmas Carol)!
The Characters
Speaking of the characters themselves, I was really amazed that Tom Hanks could pull off a voice of Hero boy! Initially, I did not recognise his distinctive voice as Santa until I could hear Woody's voice later on in the carriage, it was like Woody has made a cameo and turn into Santa with the help of Tinkerbell.
Hero Boy actually reminds me of the titular character from Hugo, I don't know why but his personality reminds me of the latter sometimes! But one thing is that they do believe in the end.
The Musical Scores & Theme Song
Contrary to my beliefs, I thought that James Horner composed the scores due to the fact that in movies that Horner had compose, many of them will turn into popular songs like My Heart Will Go On and just to name a few.
However, it is Alan Silvestri who did the scores and the tune will become the theme song 'Believe', on which this film is all about!
Finally, the scene in the train when they serve the hot chocolate was like Be Our Guest from Disney's Beauty and the Beast.
If You Just Believe!
So there you have it, if you're on Christmas spirit right now. I would suggest you all to watch it. Whether if you have seen it or never seen it before! This movie will hold a special place in your heart.
