The musical named Lion King made its debut at the venue of the New Amsterdam Theatre on the 13th of November back in the year 1997. It had been relocated on the 13th of June in the year 2006 to the venue of the Minskoff Theatre. The Lion King comes at the 8th number in the list of the longest running shows of all times in the Broadway history.
The story of the musical revolves around the epic adventures of a young lion cub who is named Simba. It tells the story of his struggles to the acceptance of his responsibilities of adulthood and also of his destiny as the king of the jungle. The director for this musical is the talented and the famous Julie Taymor who had been the very first woman in the entire Broadway history to bag a Tony Award for the category of the Best Director of a Musical. The Lion King also has a book that has been penned by Roger Allers and Irene Mecchi whereas the music has been given by the legendary singer and musician named Elton John. Additional music has been given by Hans Zimmer, Lebo M, and the talented Mark Mancina and last but not the least Jay Rifkin. The lyrics have been given by Tim Rice.
Amongst the cast is a Shannon Tavarez, who is an 11-year-old who played the character of the young lion cub, named Nala in this Disney's Broadway production. She has recently been diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia in the month of April and the doctors have given their verdict that she needs a bone-marrow transplant fast and this might be her only chance of surviving the cancer.
