She never says that she loves Peeta,so i don't tknow what you are basing this on. BUT, she does say that she loves Gale.

Well its obvious that she loves him. she just wont admit it, that part is left for the reader to figure out, which is why we are having this conversation right now ;) And maybe its just me, but i always thought that she loved Gale more as a brother . thats just my opinion :)

I agree that she loves Gale more as brother; direct quotations:
Gale: "I love you."
Katniss: " I know"
and so on...she cannot say "I love you" , although she said that when he was so badly beaten and even though she kissed him, she felt guilty when she found Peeta watching her. Thus, Gale is more as a precious friend/family. However, in Peeta's case, she clearly cannot live without him:
"I realize only one person will be damaged beyond repair if Peeta dies. Me."
"I feel that thing again. The thing I only felt once before. In the cave last year, when I was trying to get Haymitch to send us food. I kissed Peeta about a thousand times during those Games and after. But the was only one kiss that made me feel something stir deep inside. Only one that made me want more...Instead of satisfying me, the kisses have the opposite effect, of making my need greater. I thought I was something of an expert on hunger, but this is an entirely new kind."

Do I need to say more?
Well, just for assurance, she compared herself to Annie, Finnick's girldfriend, that she was going or already is crazy, mentally disturebed by the loss of her love.

Btw, go team PEETA!

Well in the first book it doesn't hint that she likes either of them. She treated Gale as her admirable brother and Peeta as a friend who was acting like he loved her (and vice versa) in order to survive. But in The Hunger Games, it shows the relationship with Peeta and Katniss. And I think she secretly likes/loves him, but is focused more on surviving and is confused between the whole act they have to put on. But the second book it shows Katniss's relationship with Gale and how Gale has always loved her. When he admits to her, she admits as well (they kissed...and this, unlike with Peeta, isn't an 'act')

I think she loves Gale more, or at least is more aware to her feelings she shares with Gale. (She has known him for a longer time) With Peeta she's probably confused between what she thought was acting, and survival etc.

I'm a Gale fan though.

yea well gales not as good as peeta. eveytime peeta and katniss kiss, katniss always wants more... she actually feel something and in catching fire it shows how much she cares for peeta. gales barely in the 2 books so idk why people say that they should be together. just my opinion :D

well, in catching fire, katniss clearly said that "Gale is mine, I am his. Anything else is unthinkable." and when she tried to put herself in gale's shoes, she really felt what it must be like to be gale, and she got angry.

Catching Fire, pg. 117

Katniss- "I imagine watching Gale volunteering to save Rory in the reaping, having torn from my life, becoming some strange girl's lover to stay alive, and then coming home with her. Living next to her. Promising to marry her. The hatred I feel for him, for the phantom girl, for everything, is so real and immediate that it chokes me. Gale is mine. I am his. Anything else is unthinkable."

Catching Fire, pg. 27

Katniss- "He took my face in his hands and kissed me. I was completely unprepared. You would think that after all the hours I'd spent with Gale that I would know all there is to know about his lips. But I hadn't imagine how warm they would feel pressed against my own... I tried to decide how I felt about the kiss, if I liked it or resented it, but all I really remembered was the pressure of Gale's lips and the scent of oranges that still lingered on his skin. It was pointless comparing it to the many kisses I'd exchanged with Peeta. I still hadn't figured out if any of those counted."

Ok, for all of you who say she thinks of him as a brother... would you say those things about you're brother? I think not. And the last thing she says about Peeta, those kisses don't count, she was faking. So she has one real kiss with Gale, and one real kiss with Peeta later. But she has so much history with Gale... I think she loves him the most.

okay, maybe more than a brother but not as a lover she clearly states that she cannot cope without Peeta and that is after Peeta tells her that she will be a wonderful mother and can start a family with Gale. Yet, she dreams of her and "Peetas" child in a green meadow or so. Also, she starts to noticing thing of Peeta: "I like to watch his hands as he works making a blank page bloom...His face takes a special look when he concentrates. His usual easy expression is replaced with something more intense and removed that suggests an entire world locked away inside him...I don't know quite what to make of it. I also become a little fixiated on his eyelashes, which you ordinary don't notice much beacuse they're so blond. But up close, in the sunlight slanting in from the window, they're a light golden colour and so long I don't see how they keep from getting all tangled when he blinks. One afternoon Peeta stops shading a blossom and looks up so suddenly that I start, as though I were caught spying on him., which in a strange way maybe I was. (Catching Fire, p. 195) . Another example of her relationship with Gale would be when they are talking if Peeta died in the first hunger game; Gale: "And where would we be, Katniss?"... I pause, not knowing what to say. Where would I be with my pretended cousin who wouldn't be my cousin if it weren't for Peeta? Would he have still kissed me and would I have kissed him back had I been free to do so?Would I have let myself open up to him, lulled by the security of money and food and the illusion of safety being a victor could bring under different circumstances?(Catching Fire, p. 223-24) Although she never thought of Peeta much after the games, their relationship is growing as one read in the 2nd novel, for instance, all your example of how she apprently loves Gale more is from the beginning of the novel but in the later part of the novel her desire of risking her life for Peeta's despit the odds, despite her stong filial duty as the strong one in her family and Gale's for that matter, she wants to rescue him, " But I have a mission. No it's more than a mission. It's my dying wish. Keep Peeta alive." would anyone feel the amount of gratefulness like Katniss is "feeling" towards Peeta that he comes before her family? Besides, the kisses with Gale's was initiated by him and not her, except for the one when she thought he was dying, on the other hand Peeta never initiated a kiss with her unless infront of the cameras and the one I described above was all her doing. Another example to undersccore my opinion of her newly sparked feelings for Peeta would be the long nights of nightmares, which is soothed by Peeta's company. Katniss: " I know I was screaming, but no one comes. Not Peeta...When Peeta holds out his arms, I walk straight into them...I wraped my arms tightly around his neck before he can order me to do push-ups or something. Instead he pulls me in close and buries his face in my hair. Warmth radiates from the spots where his lips just touched my neck, slowly spreading through the rest of me. It feels so good, so impossible good, that I know that I will not be the first to let go. Nad why should I? I have said goodbye to Gale. I'll never see him again, that's for certain...That, at least, is one weigh of my shoulders." This quotes suggests how Katniss and Peeta's relationship has developed as well that Gale's love was more like a burden to her, whilst Peeta was her comport. Wants some more, gald to share Katniss and Peeta moments:D

wow shinobiffo...you are really a true team peeta. good, cause so am I XD Just to expound on the Gale's kiss quote kae_317 used: didn't Katniss have to sit there and think about whether she liked the kiss or not after Gale left? sorry, I don't have my book with me, but I seem to remember that. And I can't recall if she ever came to a decision about it haha. and shinobuffo I think it's a good point that Peeta has never kissed Katniss except in front of the cameras. he knows she doesn't love him like that (or she refuses to admit it), so he doesn't kiss her in private because he's such a good person and he doesn't want to force anything on her. but if he did kiss her in private, away from the cameras...what would katniss feel? I think she thinks of her and peeta's kisses as "not counting" because she knows they were to keep up the act. but if he kissed her in private, she would know it was for real. no pressure from the audience, or expectations, or whatever. what would she feel then? I hope we get to find out in august :)

I think she is just confused about her feelings. I personally think she loves peeta since she seems seriously heartbroken when he dissapeared. Sure when she was away from gale she was sad, but when she was away from peeta she was seriously devestated. I also think that gale she loves as like a friend, not a lover. If she didn't have feelings for peeta, why was she prepared to sacrifice herself for him? why was she going to kill finnick for him after she thought finnick was going to kill peeta?

I think Katniss loves both of them right now. She is sure she loves Gale because he's her best friend and he's been there for her all this time, so it seems natural. But I do think it's a little fuzzy for her to determine what kind of love she has with him. Brotherly love, definitely, but more than that? She tries experimenting with a different kind of love in CF and tries to figure out exactly how she feels about him, but I don't think she's quite got it figured out yet, because her relationship with Peeta is confusing her. She says Peeta and her are just friends, but I think it's more than that. She is always wishing for physical closeness from Peeta; him sleeping with her to drive away her mightmares, wanting him to hold her after he's been so strict in their training, etc. A normal friend wouldn't long for that sort of thing.

Although in Catching Fire Katniss says she has chosen Gale over Peeta, right after that she wakes up, wishing Peeta were there, and then has to remind herself that she chose Gale. I think the quote goes something like this: "And then I remember I'm not supposed to wish that anymore. I have chosen Gale and the rebellion, and a life with Peeta is the Capitol's design, not mine."
So, she basically is thinking "Oh, I wish Peeta were here...whoops! I'm not supposed to want to be with Peeta anymore because I chose Gale! I forgot...I'm going to have to remind myself that whenever I think about Peeta."

So, needless to say, I don't think she's made her final decision yet. :) I am hoping that in Mockingjay she'll realize her true feelings for Peeta and accept them. ♥

she's confused with peeta because she spends more time with him. if gale had the opportunity, it would be sure that they will end up together. katniss clearly stated that she chose gale by choosing not to run away. she just wants peeta's company because there's no one else. but if gale was with them in train or anywhere, she would definitely choose gale's company than peeta's.
