She's poorly written, has no personality, isn't necessary to the plot, her romance with Phillip was badly done and lacked any form of chemistry, and she was clearly just foamed into the movie and if you took her out you wouldn't miss anything in terms of story. True, we'd lose the amazing song, Rewrite the Stars, and while I ADORE the song (It's my second favorite in the movie), it wasn't necessary to the story and the poorly done couple doesn't help. She and her brother are the only characters that weren't based off or even loosely inspired by a real-life person from Barnum's time at all. That just shows how foamed in she is and was just there because Zendaya will draw in her huge fanbase. I think my main hatred for the character comes from how miscast Zendaya is. Her hammy and fake line delivery, wooden and emotionless facial expressions, and stiff and robotic movements and mannerisms make her come across as a stuck up snob. She came off as a snob more than the actual snobs of the film, which wasn't what the character was supposed to be like. So Zendaya really killed the character and just seeing her in the film physically hurts me. Sorry to those of you who are fans of her but that's just my brutally honest opinion.
