Hi everyone, I had finally seen the film today and I really glad that I really enjoy watching it! So, here is my review on this wonderful film.
The Story
When I first watched the film, I thought it was going to be like Moulin Rouge, mainly because of the cinematography and the settings. In the end, I was wrong about it! It was much colourful than Moulin Rouge to which I will talk about the settings later on.
Unlike the typical musical movie which the songs randomly came out that I had watch, they combine both singing and talking at the same time so that the songs will not be like a HUGE slap across the audience's face!
The Songs & Choreography
Okay, the soundtrack are very up-beating, inspirational and witty. They are catchy, original and very moving at the same time, the composer and lyricist are new that I give kudos to them for all of their hard-work and dedication that they put in!
The choreography blew me away by it, especially the first circus scene and the drinking scene between Zac Efron and Hugh Jackman.
Visual Effects
As promised, the reason why I said that this film reminds of Moulin Rouge is mainly because of the visual effects, it was how the camera transited from one scene to another.
The Costumes
The costumes are more colourful and vibrant, it's not so cliche like in previous Victorian Era movies that I had seen.
The Acting & Characters
Once again, Hugh Jackman amaze us with his singing, dancing and charisma throughout the movie! He blew me away once again after seeing him as Jean Valjean in Les Miserables 6 years ago, so he is no stranger to musicals and musical films alike.
I knew Zac Efron from both the High School Musical trilogy and Hairspray, like Hugh Jackman I personally he's going to a huge career ahead of him.
The actress who played Queen Victoria looks A LOT like her descendant, a young Queen Elisabeth II (no puns intended). Overall, good acting from her despite that she only makes 5 minutes of appearance!
Many of the circus performance are all exceptionally good, so kudos to the director for having them in the film.
Moral Values
As usual, the film seeks redemption and forgiveness, especially about the part when Charity forgives P.T. Barnum after the kiss with that Swedish soprano after he realises about his egoistic tendency that appeared front page in the newspaper.
It also teaches that appearances doesn't count as long as there's something good inside of you, that's what this film teaches us about.
The Show Must Go On!
Wow! Writing this review makes me want to see the film again and I hope you enjoy this film as much as I do.
