So I really didn't want to review this episode. But because I don't know what else to do with myself and my life just somehow revolves around this show now, here we go.
Homework Assignment
They sang Bulletproof for Max Adler, who tells them to stop mid-song and they're all just kind of like, "what the fuuu-". Apparently they weren't being tenacious enough and he tells them to go all out this time. As usual, Samuel growls, Lindsay belts it out, Cameron spazzes, Alex flirts with Max, Hannah points, and Damian makes my heart melt. Damian also sounded like he was trying to sound American...? Maybe it was just me. But it was cute. Max said that Damian couldn't remain in character; he would kind of "check out" when other people started singing. My baby's so sweet, giving other people a chance to shine! <3
Samuel thought he had this one, and I did too, but Marissa ended up winning because she knocked over a chair. At first I didn't understand why she won, it didn't seem like she actually brought a lot of attitude to her performance, but she did utilize her surroundings and she was creative.
Shooting the Video
The mash-up songs were the two most OBVIOUS songs you could pick for a mash-up: Under Pressure and Ice Ice Baby? Same exact bass, you couldn't be less creative. And the music video itself was pretty bad; the amount of slushy-ing being done was just ridiculous. Come on, correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm sure the actual Glee cast doesn't even get slushied that much.
Looking over the contenders performances, the judges seem to be unimpressed with Marissa. Apparently she's "lost her electricity". Poor Marissa, won the homework assignment and her present was getting slushied more than anyone else. Well, DUH, she's gonna be less electric than usual, you're throwing freezing, colored ice in her face! She had to work more than anyone else, if she's a little tired during shooting, it's because she's working her butt off! Considering the amount of times she got slushied, she took them all really well. She was more of a man about it than Cameron and Alex at least.
The Bottom 3
Samuel, Damian, Lindsay, and Hannah are all called back, in that order. Cameron and Alex are in the bottom 3 because they didn't take the slushies well and Marissa because she was "less electric" this week. Also, apparently Nikki told Robert and Zach Marissa hadn't practiced her lines when I distinctly recall Marissa saying she just hadn't practiced some lines as much? *sigh*
They're all given their original audition songs to sing: Marissa, "Hate on Me"; Alex, "And I'm Telling You I'm Not Going"; and Cameron, "Love Can Wait". Alex dresses in drag and Cameron is singing his own creation... how can they expect Marissa to stand out amongst that?!
As much as I hate to admit it, Alex can sing. At first I thought he was one of those people that just shrieks the highest notes they can hit but my word, the guy's got pipes.
Marissa gave a FIERCE performance. She was sassy too, cleverly changing the words up to "Don't hate on me, Ryan" at one point. That girl is like a redheaded Christina Aguilera, but her vocal runs just weren't enough. Maybe Marissa should have come out dressed as a boy and claimed to be lesbian. Then maybe Ryan Murphy would have given her a second chance.
To be honest, I think really the only reason Ryan Murphy is keeping Cameron on is because of what Zach and Robert say. Especially Zach, I'm pretty sure the guy's in love with him. But Ryan doesn't seem to be very interested in Cameron.
Marissa was sent home, making this the leading nomination for the most thoughtless and stupid elimination to ever occur on reality television. But Ryan Murphy said that he regrets the elimination he made in episode 6 (as he should) and might just call them back for a guest appearance in Glee....
