Jasper’s Story
Chapter 2
I sat on the couch, with my head in my hands. Praying that Alice’s comes home. The sun rose, indicating the new day. Alice and Bella had been gone for nearly twelve hours. I was beside myself with worry, and I was furious at myself, and Tanya. I could feel everyone else’s emotions. Worry, concern, confusion, even a little bit of anger. But I couldn’t bring myself to do anything about it. I couldn’t control my own emotions right now, never mind anyone else’s.
“It’s gonna be okay.” Esme soothed me. I looked at her, questioning her sanity.
“Is it?” I questioned.
“Yes. Alice has only gone to clear her head. Give her a few days.”
I couldn’t, I got up and pulled my cell phone out my pocket. I dialled Alice, number one on speed dial.
I waited for the answering machine. On the seventh ring I hung up. I sat on the stair and put my head in my hands again. Edward sat beside me.
“Bella won’t answer either.” He told me. Was this supposed to make me fell better?
“Yeah, I guess.” Edward answered my mental question.
“It’s all my fault their gone. I’m sorry.” I apologized over and over again.
“Hey. We’re gonna get them back!” He assured me. He had a hard edge around his voice. I wasn’t sure if he trusted his own words.
Days past, neither Alice or Bella would return any phone calls. After a week, Edward and I couldn’t take the suspense any longer. We headed out and ran after them, their scent was there, but it was weak. We ran and ran, their was a split in the scent. Edward followed Bella’s scent, while I stuck to Alice’s. We met up again, about two miles away from where we split.
“Anything?” I asked.
He shook his head sadly, he already knew my answer.
“What do we do?”
“Keep following the scent.” He suggested. I nodded. We tracked it until we hit the water, okay so they weren’t planning on staying in America. It was hard to keep a hold of their scent in the water, because there was a storm and it was washing the scent away. We lost it, and found it again, numbers of times, until we hit dry land again.
“Do you think they are near here?” I questioned him.
“I think they are close, but not in a walking distance.”
“Oh right, lets keep running then.” And with that we set off it was ten minutes before we stopped again I turned to Edward and said “They were here I can smell the scent its really strong,”
“I know Alice must have had a vision this morning that we would be here, lets follow it again.” He replied pointing north.
“Do you think we will get them tonight?” he asked me.
“Dunno, don’t think so maybe we should stop and hunt, then go searching again what do you think?”
“I agree lets hunt.” He said nodding.
We continued by a river for sometime before we smelt some Elks then we hunted for a few hours though it seemed like days I sat on a log, waiting for Edward to finish his fourth elk, ‘very very greedy’ I thought to my self.
“Hey!” he said glaring at me smirking.
“Oops sorry,” I chuckled.
“Its okay, speaking of greedy did you see Renesmee at your party, all that coke she was really hyper.” He laughed trying to brighten up my spirits I suppose.
“Oh, that wasn’t just coke it had blue Smarties in it as well, and by the way don’t say she was hyper cause I said that this morning, and she said quote ‘’I was not hyper, I asked Carlisle and he said that I had too much coke and that the proper word would be, psychotically perky!’ “ I said with a great imitation of Renesmee, then we both went into fits of laughter.
“Right lets head off then,” Edward said jumping up from the log.
“Kay,” and we headed of after the scent to find our wives.
After a few miles we found a big group of campers, there were at least twenty five tents.
“Do you think they’re there?” I asked, we were running at a human pace towards the tents.
“Maybe. Let’s check.”
We had to pay this man to let us past, he eyed us warily.
“Name?” He asked, he sounded utterly bored.
“It doesn’t matter. We’re looking for someone.” Edward said,
“Names?” The man repeated.
“Edward and Jasper.” Edward said, matching the man’s bored tone.
“Last names?”
“Unnecessary.” I insisted.
The man gave me a funny look.
“How long do you plan to be here?”
“Not long.”
“How long?”
“It depends,”
“On what?”
“Nothing regarding you.” Edward said, keeping his tone polite.
The man rolled his eyes, “ten dollars.”
I obediently handed him a ten dollar note, he stepped out of our way, and we headed straight for the biggest tent. “How the hell will we know which one they will be in?” Edward asked me .
“I was hoping you would have a master plan for that one,”
“Eh... well oh, I know-“
“Do share,” I interrupted.
He smirked, “ Well we go and search every tent, because they could have disguised their scent you never know, and if its not them, you change their emotions to be calm and forget about us... what do you think?”
“It’s worth a shot lets get started.” And we headed off for the first tent.
I poked my head through the gap in the tents door but it wasn’t Alice and Bella instead, two very obese men.
“Definitely not in here,” I said.
“Right, lets keep going they haven’t disguised their scent, because I can smell it quite strongly can you?”
I took a whiff of fresh air, “Yup, definitely,” We kept checking different tents, just to be disappointed, eventually we found a smaller tent than the rest, the scent coming out of it was so strong that we barged through the canvas doors, “Alice...Bella!” we shouted in perfect synchronisation.
“They’re not here they must have already left,” I said checking under all the sheets before turning to Edward.
He wasn’t convinced. “but there scent stops here.” He argued, “It doesn’t keep going.”
I slumped myself down in the corner of the little tent, only to be disturbed by something small shining from the opposite corner. I crawled across and picked it up. A ring,
“Look.” I said holding it up to show Edward, “It’s Alice’s wedding ring.” He took it from me,
“Are you sure?” He asked.
“Read the inscription.” I muttered.
“To Alice, my one and only love.” He read aloud, “Oh, your right. It is hers.”
I rolled my eyes at him. I held my hand out patiently, he put the ring in it, I put it in my pocket.
“Come on.” He said, unzipping the canvas door and stepping outside, “We have to find them.”
I followed him out, zipping the tent back up. I followed him. We caught their scent every so often, but it was weak, I was starting to give up hope.
“We’re going to find them.” He assured me. I didn’t really believe him.
“I have nothing left to live for!” I moaned, he stopped dead in his tracks turning to face me. His expression was stress, confusion and sadness all rolled up into one twisted expression.
“Don’t think like that!” He growled, “We’re going to get them back.”
“Yeah, but Alice will never forgive me.”
“Jasper, calm yourself down.” Edward said cautiously, “Let’s just concentrate on finding them.”
I nodded miserably, following him again. I sensed two other emotions apart from ours.
“Edward, stop.”
He looked at me, just plain confused, “What?”
“I sense more emotions than just ours. There are more people here.”
“Human or vampire?”
“Vampire, I think.” I looked around, trying to find the sources, “Do you not hear anyone else’s thoughts?”
He didn’t answer me for a while, he was obviously trying to hear. He nodded his head warily.
“Over there.” He pointed east. He followed the thoughts for miles, I followed him, confused.
“Where are we going?” I asked after about 4 miles of constant running.
“That way.” He said, now pointing north, “We aren’t that far, maybe another mile or so. What emotions are you picking up?”
I concentrated on them, “There are seven emotions, nine including ours.”
“What are they?”
I concentrated harder, “Scared, two are very scared, the others are a mix, satisfaction, enjoyment, amusement. Things like that.”
“This way.” Edward said, he seemed more determined than ever.
“What thoughts are you hearing? How many?” I asked him, while we were running.
“6 minds.” He answered immediately. I thought about his answer for about an eighth of a second.
“Bella.” I muttered under my breath, I spoke more clearly next, “six minds, you can’t here Bella’s mind. What are you hearing?”
“Hold on, let me try and concentrate on Alice’s.” He said, stopping again and holding one finger up.
“Scared, terrified, she thinks she’s lost her ring, she wishes that someone would come save her, oh, she is in pain, quite a bit actually.” He started running again.
We ran for another two miles. “The scent’s stopped.” I said suddenly. He stopped and turned, he obviously didn’t notice.
He took a deep breath, inhaling the fresh air. “You’re right.” He groaned, pulling at his hair. I looked at our surroundings, what happened to the forest we were in a minute ago? Now we were in somewhere much more public, How far have we been running? I was obviously misjudging the distances.
“Canada.” Edward muttered. He pointed to the signs, we had been running along side a road, I looked at them, vaguely noticing the names of the places. We were in Canada, how did that happen?
“What do we do?” I asked, looking around, still in shock.
“Find somewhere wet.” He said, indicating to the cloudless sky. We ran until we found rain, we sheltered in a half empty cafe.
“Did you know we were in Canada?” I asked him curiously.
“No.” He admitted.
“How do we find them?” I asked,
He shook his head sadly, “Believe me, I wish I knew.”
I pulled my cell phone out of my pocket, “Its our only hope.” I muttered dialling Alice. I let it ring until I got the voicemail. I slammed the phone onto the café table, a crack appeared right down the middle of the table. Edward eyed me carefully, then my cell rang. I grabbed it and put it straight to my ear. “Hello, Alice?” I whispered only to hopefully.
“No. It’s Carlisle.” The voice from the other side of the phone said,
“Oh, sorry.”
“I was going to ask you if you had any luck, but I’ll take my greeting as a no.” He said regretfully.
“Sorry about that.”
“It’s fine Jasper, where are you two just now?”
“Canada.”
“Canada? Why there?”
“Not sure, we traced their scent to Canada. We’re in a little café just now, trying to work out our options.”
“I see, can I speak with Edward?” He asked politely.
“Sure.” I handed Edward the phone.
“Hello. No, yes. We keep losing their scent.” He paused, “Maybe. I never thought of that. Yes, I’ll let Jasper know and see what he says. Yes, thanks. Bye.” He handed back the phone but Carlisle wasn’t there anymore.
“What have you to let me know?” I asked curiously.
“Carlisle thinks, but hopes it’s not true, that maybe they’ve been taken by someone. And maybe the scent we’re picking up is them trying to help us find them. If that makes sense?”
“Yeah, it does. I mean think about it. The moment we decided to come look for them, Alice would have seen it.”
“So you think that they have been trying to help us?” Edward said, trying to follow my train of thought.
I nodded solemnly.
“Right, do you think we should head off then?” I asked him.
“Yeah but we need to find the scent,”
“How do we do that?”
“We retrace our steps?”
I nodded, “Let’s go.” We had barely left our seats when a grumpy waitress came over to our table, “Can I get you boys anything to eat?” She asked us glumly.
“Um…we’re just leaving.” Edward said, walking towards the door.
“So you sat in my café for no reason other than to fill up seats for my other customers?” She accused.
“Whatever. Ehm… You have a crack on that table, you might want to get it seen to.” I said, following Edward out the door.
“Right, lead the way.” I said to Edward, pointing him in the right direction. We ran until we found the campsite from earlier. Their tent was still pitched. Edward ran over to the tent, and had a look. He beckoned me over. I ran at a human pace over to him.
“What?”
“Smell that, someone’s been here.” He pointed out.
“Yeah, us.”
“No, I mean since then.” He said, agitated. He clambered into the tent and had a look around.
“Do you recognise the scent?” I asked him from outside.
“A bit familiar,” He mused. I went in and smelt the scent. I was a bit familiar, but mostly not. My phone started vibrating in my pocket, I looked at the caller ID. It was Bella,
“Hello?” I said into the microphone,
“Hello Jasper. Are you okay?” Bella asked.
“Okay? Pretty traumatised but apart from that, we’re just swell.” I said, the last bit sarcastically, “What about you two?”
“We’re not okay, as such.” She admitted.
“Where are you?”
“To be honest, I don’t know.”
“Are you in Canada?” I questioned.
“I don’t think so. It’s not cold here.”
“Okay. Do you have any idea where you are?”
“Oh, I’ve arrived in Washington,” she suddenly.
“How come you didn’t know where you where then?” I asked suspiciously,
“Because we were at the bottom of America and I haven’t got a map handy!”
“Okay, is Alice there?”
“Y-OOUCH, no” she yelped.
“What happened?”
“Eh… uh A-OUCH, keep running into trees!” she whimpered.
“Right, okay, do you want to speak to Edward?”
“Eh… yes please, thanks Jasper bye,”
“Bella, Bella, oh it’s good to here your voice where the hell are you?” Edward said furiously, “Yes, Yes, what your at home!!!!!” he fumed.
“Right bye, love you too,” he snapped the phone shut, and handed it back to me.
“Where’s Alice, did she say she was with her?”
“No, why what did she say to you?”
“She kept banging into trees,”
“That’s likely, lets head home before she or they leave again,”

We arrived back at home about half hour later, just to be greeted by a very confused Carlisle.
“Nice to see you home, but why are you here? Where is Bella and Alice?” He asked.
“What? They aren’t here?” I fumed,
“No. Why would they be?” Esme asked, joining Carlisle.
“Bella called and said that they had just arrived home.” Edward said trying to keep calm.
Carlisle’s face turned into a picture of horror.
“What about the scent?” Esme gasped.
“False. I think.” Edward said, I worked on trying to calm myself and Edward down.
“I see.” Carlisle said, thoughtful and sad.
“But why would they do that?” I asked, finally calmed down,
“Maybe my idea was right all along.” Carlisle sighed, sadly.
“What?” Edward and I said in perfect unison.
“Maybe they have been taken.” He hinted.
“No, don’t be silly.” Edward scoffed.
“What’s up?” Emmett said, joining us, Rosalie was at his side.
“Alice and Bella told them that they were home.” Esme explained swiftly.
“Oh.” Emmett said.
“Where’s Nessie?” Edward asked, looking around.
“She went over to the Quileutes for a while. She doesn’t know that Bella and Alice are missing.” Rosalie said.
“I think she has a right to know that her mum’s not here.” I argued.
“I’ll go call her.” Rosalie said, “I’ll call, Jacob and ask him to bring her over.” She clearly struggled with his name, she went out in the hall. “Yes. Dog bring her over now!” she shouted in down the phone.
“So, either they’ve been taken, or they really don’t want us to know where they are, is that right?” Emmett guessed.
“Not necessarily.” Carlisle said.
“How so?” Emmett questioned.
“Why would Bella not tell us where they are?”
“Because she is with Alice, who ran away, if you remember rightly.” Emmett pointed out.
“I remember.”
“Oh, sorry.”
“The dog’s on his way, with Nessie,” Rosalie said, coming back from the hall.
“Right. We’re not telling him what’s wrong. He’ll want to help, we can’t have that. Bella wouldn’t like it.” Edward clarified.
Then the door knocked. “He’s quick, I’ll give him that much.” Rosalie muttered under her breath.
Jacob walked in uninvited. Nessie ran straight into her dad’s arms.
“Come on in.” Emmett said sarcastically.
“What happened since we were gone?” I asked confused at why Emmett and Rosalie were being more rude than normal to Jacob.
“Nothing.” Emmett, Rosalie and Jacob all said together, “Much.” Jacob added under his breath.
I rolled my eyes.
“Right, thanks Jacob. We’ll see you later.” Esme said, hinting for him to leave.
“Whoa. Not so fast. Why was she to come home so suddenly?” He looked around, “Where’s Bella? Where’s Alice?”
“Hunting!” Emmett said, quickly,
“Having a girlie week.” Rosalie said at the exact same time. They gave each other a glare.
“I mean, they are away hunting on a girlie week.” Emmett decided.
“Hmm. Sure, sure. Why aren’t you there, Rosalie? Esme? Nessie?” He questioned suspiciously.
“Nessie has school, and is too young, Rosalie and Emmett already had something planned, and I stayed to make sure the house didn’t fall apart while they were gone.” Esme lied quickly.
Jacob wasn’t convinced, He turned to leave.
“Oh, by the way. If that story is true, which it obviously isn’t. I thought you might want to know that Paul and Jared were out camping the other day and saw Alice and Bella with a bunch of guys.” He continued to the door.
Everyone was in complete shock, and silence. “That was erm… a newborn coven. They were helping them.” Emmett plucked up the courage to say.
Jacob turned back round, spinning on his heels, “How do you know?”
“They told us.” He argued.
“How?”
“Hello. This is the twenty-first century. I believe there is a thing called a cell phone.” He said, waving his own cell in the air.
Jacob rolled his eyes and left.
“Hmmph, bye then!” Nessie said, probably a bit hurt.
“Dad?” Nessie asked with a confused tone in her voice.
“Yes,” Edward asked hugging her tightly.
“Where’s mum and Alice, please tell me please Because Jacob might believe the story but frankly I don’t to be honest.” She said smirking.
“Well, Jasper you can tell the story,” he said letting her go and turning to me.
“Right, okay, come and sit down in the living room then,” I took her hand led her into the living room with the rest of my family following behind.
“Right, I’ll start from the beginning, because you were probably too hy-I mean psychotically perky on my birthday,” I shot a glance at Emmett, who was smirking.
“Okay, I’m listening.”
“Right, well, Tanya started talking to me, about how she is never going to be with Edward, and well eh … she kissed me-““What!” She interrupted.
“Yeah, I’m not too ecstatic about it either. To be honest, anyway

To be honest, anyway Alice saw and well you can guess the answer, she hates me now because she ran away before I pushed her off, and then she ran away, with your mum following, shortly after your dad and I left to look for them, but we couldn’t find them, eventually we lost the scent so we retraced our steps and, I got a call from your mother-“ “What did she say? Oops sorry,”
“Its okay eh, she said that she was here but Alice wasn’t with her, oh and that she was banging into trees,”
“Right, why trees?”
“I have a conclusion,”
“Do share,” Edward suggested.
“I think that, if Jacob is telling he truth, those guys that they met at the campsite, kidnapped them and forced Bella into saying those things, so if we leave now we can probably find them and find out what those guys want with them,” I explained.
“Or they could be really good friends,” Emmett suggested,
“I’m coming,” Renesmee suddenly said, everyone ignored Emmett’s suggestion.
“No you are not!” Edward said sternly.
“Why not, give me three good reasons why not!”
“One you are too young, Two You’ll want to stop and sleep, and finally three it’s to dangerous.”
“Right, here me out please,” she said turning to me, “One I’m not too young because I’m fifteen-“ “Actually mini me, your technically, six,” Emmett said glancing at her, she glared at him “Not helping Emmett! Anyway, two, well that’s why sugar rushes were invented, and three danger is my middle name,” everyone laughed including herself.
“Actually your middle name has been Carlie since birth, hear that Car-lee,” he said mockingly, “Oh, that’s it Emmett your for it!” she said and started chasing him around the house. “Don’t break any of my stuff!” Esme warned them, “Kay,” they shouted in unison.
“Lets go before she comes back down,” Edward said leading the way out of the door “we’ll call you Carlisle” he said turning round, “Tell Nessie I said bye please,”
“Okay be back soon, keep safe both of you,” and Esme had us in a firm hug, “ Emmett get back here!” Renesmee shouted chasing Emmett out into the back garden.
“Lets go,” I said and me and Edward ran off into the forest.
