But I must admit. I like Narnia 2 and 3 best because I feel like they are less preachy. Having Aslan resurrected in Narnia 1 seemed really in-your-face as far as the religious message goes.

I understand and respect that. I asked the question because to me, movies have always been about having a fun experience. My aunt would take me to Disney movies. The movies I grew up on are about good people fighting evil and good always wins. I think that is a healthy, life affirming thing for kids to hear and Narnia is like that. But I'm also a little taken out of a film when I sense an ulterior motive by storytellers. And religion is such a touchy subject. I admit. I'm a bit squeemish about depictions of the crucifixion too. I don't like them, so that is the main thing that turns me off about Narnia 1.

both. the religious undertone may seem a bit in your face, but it was meant to be. The author was a Christian. They're great books eiher way

To me, a truly great movie, book or anything else doesn't merely stop at being "fun". Fun comes and goes; it entertains you for a day and fades away the next. (And don't get me wrong. There's certainly a place for stuff like that.) But when a story touches your heart and teaches you something - when it makes you wonder and think about your own life, gives you something you can take with you for always - THAT'S when it truly means something. That's when entertainment becomes art.

It's not about having "ulterior motives" or preaching. It's not even about religion. It's about taking what gives your life meaning, what you love and believe in, and sharing that gift with the world in a beautiful, imaginative way. And that's exactly what CS Lewis did. That's what TONS of authors and movie-makers do. I fail to see why that bothers people. You don't have to agree with his "hidden agenda", but you don't have to let it offend you either. You can just enjoy the imagination and beauty in his stories, while appreciating that he used it to share the wild, untameable Being who romped into his life.

Again, it's not about mere religion. The relationship Aslan wants to have with us is too big and too wonderful to be slapped with that label, and I'm sure Lewis and any other Christian would agree.

The Great Lion will never force you to come to Him, or even acknowledge Him. And sometimes, you can't see Him at all unless you want to. But at other times, He's just too big and beautiful to ignore. ;-)

Being an atheist, I find some some religious aspects a bit too obvious and pushy, but I love the series nonetheless. :)

I'm agnostic, but I like the movies and books because of the religious undertones, in spite of them, and because the movies/books are fun :)

I'm not devout in my faith, and I was disappointed at how pushy the first one was in religious aspects. Don't get me wrong, I respect people's views: but even though the rest of the movie calmed down with the religion for the next two, and I appreciated that - Lucy grew worse. I sort of came to ignore her and simply enjoy the movies for the idea that they let me enter a different world. However, at the end of Narnia 3 I was again disappointed at the *theme song,* of all things, that stated a pushy religious aspect. :|
