The 90s Question

What are your thoughts on Nickelodeons current state of confusion?

Do you think Nickelodeon is doing great right now?

What do you think could be done better? Will Nickelodeon ever air reruns of their past programming?

What are your thoughts?

Lack of creativity. It seems that starting in 2000's creativity seemed to dry up, or at least go underground. Nickelodeon wasn't the only thing to get worse. The music industry, with its love affair of people like Lady Gaga and The Jonas Brothers, has gone downhill. Then again maybe it is because I am getting old. I miss the 1990's I was born in 1986. My childhood was during the 1990's.

That's exactly what I feel about the world today. I personally feel that our world is dying, especially with the stupidity of the current generation. Have you seen the news lately? Most of it is completely ridiculous. The world can only idolize pop culture for every little thing that they do. I just wish to relive the 90's all over again, back when everything was cool.

I currently am not satisfied with the programs displayed on Nickelodeon. There should be something done about. All I know is that they will rarely give reruns of their old programs. I think we can all agree that we need to bring the old shows back on television again. Whose with me?

I agree. Nickelodeon does need to air reruns of their past programming. They are just too darn stubborn to do so.

I remember when nick used to show awsome shows, yeah sure once in a blue moon they'd air a bad one but for the most part it was better in the 90's I think they could work harder at the shows they air.

spongebob is awesome, and icarly is ok but everything else is pretty much booooring. (well...excluding fairly odd parents too.) =D they should totally bring back the good old shows though.

I stopped watching a looong time ago, I was born in 1979 and I miss the early 90's and mid 90's Nick. Doug, Rugrats, You Can't Do That On Television and Clarissa Explains it all (of course Melissa Joan Hart is all grown up), but I still miss it. I wish they would bring back the retro shows, I would still watch them.

Some of the stuff on Nickelodeon is not good at all. However I do like Icarly and Victorious.....Even in the 1990's Nick had crap I thought Ren and Stimpy was a disgusting obnoxious show.rugrats annoyed me.Doug was boring....Clarissa, Are you afraid of the dark, Hey dude, and Salute your shorts were good so was The Amanda show....All that=not funny at all.

Taina was a good show so was Space Cases and I am probably one of the few that remembers You can't do that on Television, and welcome Freshmen....The rest of the shows in the 1990's I didn't take up any of my precious time watching half of it was shit than too.

My honest opinion...

I don't hate Nickelodeon as it is now. But I agree that it's lost some of it's luster. But it's not just Nickelodeon, it's a lot of kid's channels.

I pretty much boycott Disney and Cartoon Network now. Some of the shows are just so flat and pointless. I remember when it was actually worth it to get up on Saturday morning to watch cartoons! And when TV shows actually had depth to them. Now all the shows are just trying to get a cheap laugh.

I hardly even watch television anymore, instead I cling to my books for dear life! (Not saying thaat's a bad thing!)
Where am I going with this rant? I don't hate Nick, but I think they could try a little harder.
I miss the 90's!

Well...the only show on nick i'll ever watch anymore is Spongebob. I was born just in time to witness the best years of cartoon and i'm SO glad! nothing compares to the shows i used to watch when i was younger.

The one great thing - the older cartoons are becoming more accessable!! i discovered seasons of Rocko's Modern Life, Ahh!! Real Monsters, and Rugrats on netflix recently and it pretty much made my day :)

About new Nickelodeon:

CONS:
All of their shows seem to have the same theme; school. Be it elementary, middle school or high school, that seems to be where a good half of the scenes in every Nick show takes place. They probably do it because it's something the majority of kids can easily relate to. But it does mean that a similar setting automatically calls for similar storylines. Basically, by overusing this setting the creators have made it easy for the writers from one show to subconsciously "copy" writers from a different Nick show. I think that's generally a common thing with all kids' shows nowadays though - they just prefer to show their characters as everyday schoolkids, despite who or what else they may be. It doesn't completely restrict their creativity but it does narrow it down.

PROS:
When I was a kid I don't actually remember watching anything on Nickelodeon - or at least not an entire episode of anything. But some of their shows from this century managed to get my attention. I've already mentioned that I'm bored with their shows' settings and storylines, so what got me interested? Personality! In the early 21st century, their shows suddenly became full of character. I'm not saying that their older shows didn't have personality, but I will say that I think they could have done a LOT more with the way their old character acted (sitcoms and cartoons) to make them more interesting. Looking back, they had some very cleverly-designed and unique characters in many of their old school shows. They just failed to grab my attention as a child because their personalities were shown in an uninteresting way. In short, I didn't care for the characters. You could almost describe the old shows as being "timid"... you know that the personality is present, it just seems to hold back on making itself noticeable.

WHAT SHOULD NICK DO?
Originality and personality are the keys here. Give the show a unique setting and the unique storylines will follow. That will give the audience a reason to give the show a chance - there will be nothing else like it! Then, make sure the show has a cast of appealing characters; don't hold back on showing us what their personalities are like and make them fun to get to know. This is what'll keep the audience drawn in on that first episode; if they care about the characters, they'll care about the story and where it takes them.

SOMETHING ELSE TO REMEMBER:
Any TV show that gets your attention for the right reasons deserves some love and support. So watch it! And try to get others to do so. And please. Don't watch the shows you don't even like. Yes, I'm stating the obvious here, but think about it; if you're watching a TV show as a "hater", all you are really doing is giving it one more view.

(Sorry. Long post!)

Nickelodeon has changed so much! Even though I was born in 1997 and don't remember much of the 90's, I want the old shows back. I saw them on TV once like ages ago and they were really cool! I miss Rugratz heaps and had been watching it ever since I was little... Also Nickelodeon has changed into a channel for older kids (aged 13-16). I've noticed there is no cartoon shows on anymore, except Spongebob (I do like Spongebob though). I swear Nickelodeon's ratings are going down hill.
