I think it's obviously a perfect storm of all of these factors but I went with the actor because I feel like the other stuff can only take you so far.

Take Chuck Bass as an example. He was only supposed to be a guest character...Look at him now! I think Ed is greatly to thank for that.

Cuz even if the creator conjures up a brilliant character, and the writers embellish his/her role and make them out to be unique and outstanding- if the actor can't do a good job, chances are I won't be as interested.

The Writers Create The Charcters But You Half The Write Actor To Play The Part Or Its Just Wrong So Writer/Actor Both Go Into Making The Charcter Great :)

Ohh very tough. You need a team of excellent writers to create a awesome character, but then you also need great actors to pull it off.

In the case of Dexter (who is the best), the credit goes to the creator Jeff Lindsay for the clever creation, to the writers for the development of the character and Michael C. Hall for being one of the most talented actors on TV.

If they didn't write the character the actor wouldn't be able to play him.

Michael Weatherly IS Tony. He contributes immensely to his character.

Writers are responsible for creating a foundation for a character however, its the actors job to bring it to life.

After all, some of the best written characters fail if the wrong actor is given the part. It ultimately depends on the casting if a character is a success or not.

I don't give the writers enough credit, for sure.

Veronica wouldn't be HALF as amazing without Kristen! Same goes for Ed and Chuck, etc etc. But the writers and creators have ALOT to do with it as well.

Tough pick, but definitely the actors. The writers and creators are sort of tied, with the writers just barely coming out as second.

The actors definitely, because after a while, once they get to know their character really well, it's their job to make sure the character stays true to him or herself, even going as far as making up their own lines.

There are characters I like based mostly on the actor's portrayal but to me in those cases it's not the character that's awesome, it's the actor. For me to call a character awesome I have to know I'd still love them if I read them in a book or something. Like River Tam for example, I'd still consider her a fantastic character if I was reading her not watching her, so as amazing as I find Summer Glau's acting in that role (and I really do think she did an amazing job) it's the character that's awesome in it's own right. On the other side of it there's the title character in Castle, I know my enjoyment of him relies most on Nathan Fillion's performance, so no matter how much I like him I'd never qualify him as an amazing character, because unlike with a great character it's not that Castle is awesome, it's that Nathan Fillion is awesome AS castle, and there's a difference.

Actors play a vital part in bringing a character to life, deciding what they're like and how enjoyable they are to watch though. For a truly great character everything needs to be in place, a great idea worked on by great writers interpreted by a great actor. I'd give most credit to creators and writers, but actors get a huge share of the credit too :)

Experiment: Imagine your favorite TV and film character. Now Imagine your least favorite actor in that role. Is it still as good?

When it comes down to it. If the actor is the one interpreting the material and bringing it really falls down on them. Also think about bad writers. Sometimes a the right actor can make a weak character work splendidly(For example Barney from How I met Your Mother is such a typical sitcom character that shouldn't work as well as he does.) and the wrong actor can sink what would be an great character.

+ the writers of course but if you dislike the actor & how he plays it, it will never work out.
