Television Top 10 TV Lists

jlhfan624 posted on May 27, 2011 at 06:36PM
So I stole this idea from EllaBlack's link, and fanfly stole the idea for link, so now I'm making one for this spot.

It's simple:
First person gives a topic for a list of tv-related things. Next person to comment makes their list, and then gives a new topic for the next person. They can be anything - favorite characters (male/female), favorite finales, favorite casts, etc. Have fun!

Shows you think are underrated

I am basing this on the fact that they were cancelled way to quickly. They are in no particular order.

1. Firefly
2. Dollhouse
3. Tru Calling
4. Dead Like Me
5. United States of Tara
6. Surface….It was pretty good and the creature was totally cute.
7. Wolf Creek. It was actually pretty good even though it only had like 9 episodes.
8. Wonderfalls. It was cute.
9. Jon Doe….This was on with Firefly. It was super good.
10. Dark Angel, but I don’t think this was due to ratings as much as it was due to James Cameron being a ego maniac.

TV shows that no dvd collection should be without…

7. The X-Files (I say this as I don't even have it yet!)
8. The Simpsons (^)

These aren't particularly my ultimate favorites, just ones that I've found to be well-liked all around, to everyone with different tastes.

Favorite non-canon couples
over a year ago joe-kerr said…
By 'non-canon couple', I mean characters who aren't dating/didn't date in the show (ignoring the occational hookup or maybe a past 'ship) but who fans (like me) would like for to get together.

1. Jack/Chloe - 24 (I suspect this couple is what the question was all about)
2. Jack/Nina - 24
3. Sawyer/Ana Lucia - Lost
4. Alcide/Sookie - True Blood
5. Charlie/Rose - 2½ Men
6. Neal/Alex - White Collar
7. Eric/Pam - True Blood
8. Sam/Madison - Supernatural (Just the one episode 'Heart', still...)
9. Aaron/Riley - Friends With Benefits
10. Kurt/Kitty - X-Men Evolution (I couldn't resist)

haha joe-kerr, you suspected right! I've always been a Chloe/Jack fan! They are the highlight of my life. XD

1. EDGAR!!!! - 24
2. Mason - 24
3. Bill - 24
4. Chappelle - 24 (well it was near the end, but it counts, yeah?)
5. Omar - 24
6. Kimber - Nip/Tuck
7. Jim - Ghost Whisperer (well he died, but he didn't...it was too complex)
8. Alex - Roswell
9. Larry - 24
10. Dina - 24

I had a hard time trying to come up with shows that had character deaths mid-season that I cared about. Not many except 24.

@jlhfan624 - Sure, Chapelle counts. It was the 18th hour.
Empire ranked that episode as the best 24 episode

I had difficulty coming up with people who fit that exact description, so I did the best I could.

Shows you watch when you want to be in a better mood
over a year ago joe-kerr said…
I was kind of stalling hoping someone else answer this one but apparently that's not gonna happen. I just feel like I have to recycle the same shows over and over in questions like these (Since I haven't watched that many)

Okay, here we go:

1. Smallville
- I'm not a big fan of either Superman or 'Smallville'. I just watch the show for its dramatic irony - Clark gets disappointed every time things don't work out with Lana, but he has no idea that the future has Lois in store for her. I like to believe there's a Lois out there somewhere for every guy.

2. Arrested Development
- Just nice to see that even a family as dysfunctional as that can manage to pull through. One day at a time.

3. Castle
- Stana Katic. Just the sight of her lifts my spirits

4. The Vampire Diaries
- The show's too engrossing to think about anything else. Kind of like 24 used to be (in a totally different way)

The rest of the list is mostly sitcoms - my ususal escape when I want to 'be in a better mood'

5. The Big Bang Theory
6. Friends
7. How I Met Your Mother
8. Seinfeld
9. Mr. Bean

And at last, as usual
10. X-Men Evolution - Makes me feel like I'm twelve again.

Phew, that was tough

Now for the next question:
Characters you might have liked better had someone else played them....

I don't think many people follow this forum anymore. If they do, they just don't like the topics given. It's okay though, I definitely recycle my shows/characters too because I don't watch that much tv.

1. Michelle Dessler - 24
2. Marissa Cooper - The OC (I'm torn on her character tbh. Some days I love her, others not so much.)
3. Daphne Moon - Frasier
4. Julia McNamara - Nip/Tuck
5. Sara Sidle - CSI
6. Nicholas Brody - Homeland
7. Max Evans - Roswell
8. Nicholas Knight - Forever Knight
9. Lily Esposito - Popular
10. Kaitlin Cooper - The OC

Favorite character nicknames
over a year ago joe-kerr said…
laugh
1. Wolverine and the X-Men
It's unbelievable that Wolverine keeps calling Professor Charles Xavier 'Chuck'

2. Lost
Sawyer has got to be the most infamous name-caller. I can't choose the funniest, but the nominees are:

Mr. Clean (Locke)
Ponce de Leon (Ana Lucia)
Three Men and a Baby (counting Hurley twice)
Crouching Tiger and Hidden Dragon (Sun and Jin)
Jabronies (Nikki & Paulo)
Sally Slingshot (Alex)

The once that stuck were Freckles (Kate), Blondie (Juliet) and Frogurt (Neil)

3. Smallville
Lois calls Clark 'Smallville', like she does in the comics

4. Two and a Half Men
Berta always calls Alan 'Zippy'. And Charlie always called Jake 'Taterhead'

5. Psych
Shawn has about 16 million nicknames for Gus (apart from 'Magic Head'), of which my favorites are:
'Lemongrass Gogulope', 'Longbranch Pennywhistle', 'Galileo Humpkin', 'Felicia Fancybottom' aaand…. 'Jazz Hands'

6. HIMYM
The one Season 2 episode where everyone nicknames Barney 'Swarley'

7. The Big Bang Theory
Somewhere in season 2 Penny finds out that Sheldon's Memaw calls him 'Moonpie' beacause he's "nummy-nummy" and she could "eat him up".

8. Friends
Not any particularly funny nickname comes to mind, (except the cheesy ones Janice used to call Chandler,) but there was one episode where Chandler convinces Joey to change his name to Joseph Stalin. And then there was the one time Phoebe named herself Regina Fillange.

9. Prison Break
The inmates nicknamed Lincoln 'Linc the Sink' (He'll come at you with everything but the kitchen sink) and Michael was called 'Fish' (the new fish in town). (The former was somewhat lame and seldom used after the first few episodes.)

10. X-Men Evolution
Well, this isn't so much a nickname as a term of endearment, but I totally adore it whenever Gambit calls Rogue 'Cherie'

Wow, that took a lot more time than I thought it would. Fun question, though.

Alright, next question:
Favorite one-liners (not the funny ones, the cool ones)
over a year ago jlhfan624 said…
Okay, most of these will be from Jack Bauer, and I don't apologize for it. :P

1. "DAMMIT!" - Everyone on 24
2. "I'm gonna need a hacksaw." - Jack Bauer
3. "Let's get one thing straight kid, the only reason you're still conscious is because I don't want to carry you." - Jack Bauer
4. "Tell us what you don't like about yourself." - Sean McNamara/Christian Troy
5. "When your daughter is infected, I'm going to make you watch her die." - Jack Bauer
6. "Oh my God, you killed Kenny! You bastard!" - Usually Kyle/Stan
7. "You betrayed me too, I'm just better at it than you." - Jack Bauer
8. "I'm listening." - Frasier Crane
9. "I only take orders from the President of the United States, NOW MOVE!" - Jack Bauer
10. "You're the one that killed Palmer." - Jack Bauer (it's cool if you know what happens after :P)

Favorite unforgettable moments (either emotional or shocking)
over a year ago joe-kerr said…
sad
Well, well... this one has 24 written all over it!

<SPOILER ALERT>

1. 24 - Jack walks into the sunset after his pseudocide (Season 4) [It was very sad. He left everything behind]

2. 24 - The revelation that Nina's the mole (Season 1) and her death (Season 3) [I kinda liked Nina]

3. 24 - Jack chooses to let Paul die to save a terrorist (Season 4)

4. Vampire Diaries - Damon tells Elena he loves her and then does his Vampire compulsion thing to make her forget it. (Season 2,'Rose')

5. Prison Break - It's better if I quote this scene (Season 1, Brother's Keeper)
Veronica: You want to know what the 90 grand was for?
Michael: I think I do.
Veronica: You!
Michael: What do you mean?
Veronica: The money you got when you were 18, from your mother's life insurance, the money that paid for your degree, that got you this job, that bought you your loft. Your mother never had life insurance, that money came from Lincoln.
Michael: How?
Veronica: He borrowed it, knew it'd be tough to pay back, but that didn't matter because he thought you deserved it. He also knew you'd never accept it if you knew it came from him. Michael, you are where you are because of your brother.
Michael: You're telling me... he is where he is because of me.

6. Supernatural - Ruby tells Dean he can't be saved after all; and she remembers being human. (Season 3, 'Malleus Maleficarum')

7. Friends - The last time they all look at the apartment (Series Finale)

8. Smallville - Clark's choice to save Lana inadvertently results in his Father's death. (Season 5, 'Reckoning')

9. Lost - Kate learns that Sawyer wrote the letter himself; he wanted everyone to hate him (Season 1, 'Confidence Man'). Plus, the scene where he jumps from the chopper so that others could ride to safety (Season 4 finale)

10. Wolverine and the X-Men - Emma Frost sacrifices herself to help destroy the Phoenix Force (Series Finale)

I have a feeling that my descriptions only make sense if you have actually watched the scene before. Anyway...

Next question:
Recurring characters you'd like to see more of

5. Tweek Tweak - South Park
6. Pip - South Park

4. Forever Knight (the music was FANTASTIC though)
5. Moonlight
6. Harper's Island

3. James "Sawyer" Ford - Lost (The only reason I endured that show)
4. Michael Scofield - Prison Break
5. Ruby the Demon - Supernatural (The first one)
6. Neal Caffery - White Collar
7. Tony Almeida - 24 (He turned rogue toward the end, still..)
8. Charlie Harper - 2½ Men (If womanizing and drinking are as bad as homicide and treason)
9. Sylar - Heroes (I HATE that show and Sylar's superpower was ridiculously lame, but I liked the character and the way Zachary Quinto portrayed it)
10. Magneto - X-Men Evolution

Characters that are so good (moral fiber good) it annoys you...
over a year ago jlhfan624 said…
Aw, to me Jack never did anything wrong or horrible. But I'm aware that I'm biased. Tony was great near the end, his character development was awesome!

1. Niles Crane - Frasier
2. Andrea Zuckerman - Beverly Hills 90210 (from what I remember)
3. Ellen Parsons - Damages
4. Karen Hayes - 24
5. Sandra Palmer - 24
6. Max Evans - Roswell
7. Lily Esposito - Popular
8. Sara Sidle - CSI
9. Kevin French - Mission Hill
10. Casey Cartwright - Greek

Least favorite things (couples, episodes, characters, etc) about your favorite show
over a year ago joe-kerr said…
In my list, Sandra would trump Karen as Ms. Goody Two-shoes any day.

Now, least favorite things about 24... Let's see...

[Some of the complaints I have couldn't really have been resolved without compromising the quality of storytelling, still...]

1. Jack killed Curtis - Was that really necessary? I mean, he could have shot him in the arm or something.
2. Milo - How can a freelance from season 1 outrank the likes of Chloe and Morris in season 6?
3. Season 6 premiere - If Wayne Palmer could indeed get Jack out of China, why the bloody hell did he do that only when a terrorist demanded his head on a plate. So much for not negotiating with terrorists.
4. Jack is never promoted. Come on. 8 years (more like 17 according to the timeline) and he is CTU director only for the 1st few hours?
5. Season 2 finale - We all knew Palmer wasn't gonna die. Not a great cliffhanger. 24 could do better
6. Season 5 premiere - Well, Palmer died.
7. Graem Bauer - Jack's own brother was the one pulling the strings all along? Bit rich.
8. Kim Bauer - She had either too much screen time, or too little.
9. Theo Stoller - "I had your word. Now I know what it's worth" - Nobody talks to Jack like that.
10. I was kind of waiting for Aaron Pierce in season 8. Never happened.

Next question:
For the movie adaption of "your favorite show" choose 10 characters (except the "lead couple", of course) and recast them with movie stars you think can play them better.

I am going to do this one but unfortunately I have to work early tomorrow morning so I have to go to bed. But that gives me more time to think of people!

6. Philip Bauer - Daniel Craig
7. Claudia Hernandez - Nadine Velazquez

#7 is my favorite. Another line of Mason's I like - "Hey, service is bad enough up here. You don't have to shoot me!"

Now, serious moments in a funny show... Those are rare (except maybe on How I Met Your mother)

2. Friends - When Joey really moves out (Season 2)
3. Friends - The prom video scene with Ross and Rachel
4. HIMYM - Barney steals his dad's basketball hoop in an attempt to compensate for the childhood he never had.
5. HIMYM - Ted comes home with Robin and finds Marshall on the steps, and finds out Lily left.
6. HIMYM - Marshall hears his dad's last voice mail, his last words.
7. 2½ Men - "I don't freaking believe it" (Alan says he's marrying and moving out, right after Charlie refused to marry Mia as she wanted Alan to move out)
8. Seinfeld - Jerry makes Kramer leave (Season 3, I think)
9. Joey -"Just hoping things stay the same… it doesn't work." (Pilot)
10. Family Guy - "So let it be known I want absolutely nothing to do with the wretched enterprise of love!" (Stewie in 'Dammit Janet')

Let me start by stating that 24 is off the table for this one. Otherwise, #1 would be Season 5; #8 would be season 6 and there would be room for only 2 more. This list is for seasons I like significantly better than the rest of the show.

1. The Big Bang Theory - Season 4
2. Prison Break - Season 1 [It was the season which got my hopes up for the next one. Sadly, it was downhill from there on.]
3. Friends - Season 2 [Before it got all mushy]
4. Friends - Season 8
5. H2O - Season 1

Favorite mean-spirited (most of the time anyway) characters
over a year ago joe-kerr said…
1. Mr. Bean - He's been known to mock the blind and the handicapped, he doesn't share any of his stuff, and he got his girlfriend a hook in a ring box. It doesn't get any more mean-spirited than that.
2. Sheldon Cooper (The Big Bang Theory) - The guy doesn't even know when to say thanks. Forget thanks, he actually believes people who do him a favor ought to thank HIM for the privilege.
3. Alex Russo (Wizards of Waverly place) - The way she treats her brothers...
4. Charlie Harper (Two and a Half Men) - Deep down, I guess he WAS charitable. But he gave Alan a really hard time.
5. Stewie Griffin (Family Guy) - He's out for his mother's blood. So…

Now for the characters NOT from a sitcom (A totally different kind of mean-spirited):
1. Chloe O'Brian (24) - To people who aren't Jack Bauer. And sometimes even to him.
2. Katherine Pierce (The Vampire Diaries) - I dislike Nina Dobrev; I hate Elena Gilbert; but I love Katherine.
3. Sherlock Holmes (Sherlock)
4. Eliot Spencer (Leverage)
5. Wolverine (X-Men: TAS)

Favorite theme songs/opening credit songs/ songs played during a particular scene (The songs don't have to be original to the series, just perfect for the moments they're used in.)

Thanks.

There are many reasons I like 24 exponentially more than any other show, not the least of which is the fact that it stayed true to its premise till the very last episode. And it left on a high.

Unfortunately most shows stray from what they were supposed to air and don't know when to stop. And for me, that's unacceptable.

1. Heroes - But that may be because I'm a huge X-Men fan and I thought this show was a rip-off.
2. Lost - Like I said, didn't know when to stop.
3. Two and a Half Men - I don't know why they even bothered to continue after firing Sheen.
4. How I Met Your Mother - The last few seasons were… suffocating. I only tolerated it because of Barney.
5. Modern Family - Good. But highly overrated
6. Chuck - The pilot was so ridiculous I didn't bother to go on.
7. Supernatural, after season 3
8. Being Human.
9. Shows like 'Sex and the City' or 'Gossip Girl'
10. And finally, all reality shows.
