Our conclusion was that Will\'s brother Jonathan was the best candidate, as his death would affect several characters, as well as adding instant peril into a show where the main characters have seemed rather invincible to date.

However, perhaps the Upside Down or the sinister Hawkins National Laboratory will target one of the children instead, with the Duffer Brothers potentially having their hand forced by one of their young stars shining a lot brighter currently than the others.

It points to a likely reduced role for Mike in season three – not that you can say he had plenty to do in season two. He was just pining for Eleven while hating on Max, until Eleven returned in the penultimate episode and then he helped a bit with Will, although nothing, really, that Joyce couldn\'t have done herself. Whatever way you look at it, it was a large step down from his key starring role in season one as effectively the leader of the group.

As a result, if Mike weren\'t to do much in season three, it wouldn\'t perhaps be a surprise – unless that one thing was to die.

Like with Jonathan\'s possible death, it would solve our issue with the show in terms of tension and also affect several characters. Notably, it\'d be fascinating to see an actress of Millie\'s calibre tackle a meaty vengeance storyline, especially after season two sidelined Eleven somewhat. (We\'re ignoring THAT episode.)

If it turned out that Mike\'s death was deliberate, we\'ve no doubt Millie could make Eleven\'s arc of vengeance compelling, alongside portraying how Eleven would cope with losing the closest person to her. It could also see her team up with Will, solving that character\'s issue of actually having something to do, rather than have everyone save him all the time.

Perhaps the most exciting development it could lead to is Nancy being something other than so-and-so\'s girlfriend if she ended up losing her little brother, because it would surely affect her blossoming relationship with Jonathan. (Unless he\'s dead.)

We\'re not saying that Mike will definitely die in

season three or that Finn Wolfhard would even leave – just that if it did happen, it perhaps… wouldn\'t be all that bad.
