Sama narrating: I was not always like this. I was once royalty many years ago. I had no idea I would later come to work for royalty. Today I still pray for their souls…the souls of thy family…the ones that were taken away from me. My name is not Sama…I took the name honoring her…my real name is Sara.
Sara is running in the castle’s garden with her sister, Sama. The year is 1540.
Sara: you can’t catch me, Sama!
Sama: yes, I can!
Sara then trips and falls Sama stood there, laughing.
Sara: that wasn’t funny!
Sama: it’s not my fault! You tripped over your dress.
Sara: I am just so excited Samuel is coming back.
Sama: I know you are, Sara. I am too.
Their mother, Queen Serena, then came walking out to them.
Serena: you two must stop fooling around and get ready. You must look presentable for Samuel’s arrival.
Sama narrating: Samuel was my and Sama’s brother. We had not seen him in so long we had forgotten what he looked like.
Sama and Sara nod and go back inside the castle. One of their servants, Mary, walks alongside them. Mary was their favorite servant; she always did everything they had asked.
Mary: Master Samuel should be here soon. Are you two excited?
Sara: yes, we are very excited Mary.
Sama: mother says we must look presentable… but he’s not our betrothed, he is our own brother. I’m sure he won’t mind if he sees us like this.
Mary: are you sure you want to disobey your mother like that? Master Serena can get very strict at times.
Sama: and we would be one to know that. She is our own mother.
Mary: yes, of course madams.
Sara and Sama run into the courtyard where all of the nobles were. They run over to their favorite; Cassandra.
Cassandra: hello you two. What are you up too?
Sara: our mother thinks we are preparing for Samuel’s arrival.
Cassandra: oh, is he arriving today?
Sara: yes.
Another noble woman runs up to them.
Noble woman: Prince Samuel is here!
Sama and Sara look at each other then runs towards the front gates to the castle. In the front gates there is a boy the same age as them; black hair and yellow eyes…just like them.
Sara: Samuel!
Sara hugs Samuel and he hugs her back.
Samuel: hello, Sara. You have grown so much since the last time I saw you.
Sara: same to you, brother.
Sama: hello, Samuel.
Samuel: hello, Sama. I missed you as well.
Serena: we must have a banquet celebrating your arrival, my son. Come, let us go.
Samuel: thank you, but I cannot stay. I am going away to fight in the war.
Serena: but you mustn’t! You just got here.
Samuel: well, I guess I could stay another night. There would be no harm in that.
Sama & Sara: yay!
That night…
Everyone is sitting around a huge table within the castle. The noblewomen, the noblemen, Sama, Sara, Serena, Samuel, and even Mary was there too.
Serena: good people of the Palace, we have come here today to celebrate my son, Samuel’s, returning. Let us feast for him and shower him with gifts.
Samuel: please mother, this is not necessary.
Serena: it is too late now. The banquet has already started. Besides, your arrival is not the only reason I wanted to have this banquet.
Samuel: mother?
Serena: I have an announcement to make. As you know, I have not yet chosen a successor…someone who will rule this land when I am gone. I have now made a decision of whom I shall choose. On the day of my death, my eldest daughter, Sama, shall be crowned Queen and take the throne.
Sama looks at her with wide eyes.
Sama: really, mother? You are choosing me?
Serena: yes, I am. You are the eldest there for I know you will rule this land better than anyone else.
Sama: thank you, mother. I am much honored.
Serena: as you should be.
The next day…
Sama rushes into her mother’s room with Mary and Sara following close behind her.
Sama: mother! Mother, how could this be?
Their mother had gotten a fever and was now dying. No one knew how it could take her life so soon.
Serena: remember my words from last night. Sama, the moment I close my eyes, you are the new Queen.
Sama: no, Mother! Please don’t!
Serena: if only Samuel was here still…he would see my death.
Sama: mother, no!
Serena: goodbye.
Serena closes her eyes. Sama flings her head down on the bed and starts to cry.
Sama: no, mother, no!
Sara and Mary stood behind her, tears running down their faces.
Sama: mother’s wish will live on. I shall be crowned Queen now. I shall be crowned queen!
Sara: Sama…
The next day…
Sama is being crowned queen by a minister. The whole town is there to witness it.
Minister: Princess Sama Marie Sotoko III, do you accept this crown on your mother’s behalf?
Sama: yes, I do.
Minister: then I am now proud to crown you…Queen Sama Marie Sotoko III.
He places the crown on her head. Sama turns around and faces the townspeople. They cheered but she kept a straight face. She then walks out the door with Sara, Mary and all of the townspeople following her. There is a casket outside. Sama stands next to it.
Sama: bury it.
The minister nods and gets two townspeople to start digging a hole.
Sara: mother…
Once the hole is dug, they place the casket in the soil.
Sama: lord have mercy upon your everlasting soul, mother.
The casket is then covered with dirt. Then, Samuel came running up to her holding a sword.
Sara: Samuel! I thought you left!
Samuel: no, I couldn’t leave knowing that this injustice has been done!
Sara: injustice?
Samuel: yes. It seems your new Queen is not who she seems to be! You greedy little girl! Once you heard the news that mother was going make you Queen when she died, you couldn’t wait any longer. You made sure she died! You put poison in her food I saw you!
Sama: I did of no such thing, Samuel!
Samuel: but you can’t prove that, can you?
Sama stayed silent
Sara: Sama… please tell me you didn’t do it! Please! This can’t be true!
Sama: I didn’t do it.
Townspeople: take her away. Put her in the tower of London! Make sure she pays for this injustice!
The townspeople grab Sama and drag her away
Sama: no! I didn’t do it!
Sara: Sama…you didn’t do it. You didn’t. I know you didn’t. You would never even hurt a fly. You couldn’t have killed our own mother…
The townspeople drag Sama to the tower of London where she would await her sentence.
Sama: no, please stop! I didn’t do it!
They throw her in a cell and lock it.
Sama: no! If anything, this is injustice!
Sara stood outside of the tower thinking to herself.
Sara: she couldn’t have done this…she couldn’t have.
Samuel came up from behind her and put his arm on her shoulder.
Samuel: she did do this. She is so greedy…
Sara: I don’t believe you. She would never do a thing like this.
Samuel: trust me, I don’t want to see this either. *pulls out sword* so I won’t.
Sara: Samuel?
Samuel puts the sword up to his neck
Sara: Samuel, don’t! We can fight for her! We can fight to get her released! Just please don’t!
Samuel: we can’t fight for her. She has done such great injustice we must be the ones to do justice. I just don’t want to see it.
Sara: Samuel, no don’t!
Samuel slits his throat with the sword and falls to the ground.
Sara: no!
Sara then hears the sound of footsteps coming towards her. She quickly grabbed the body and dragged it away. The townspeople run by her. Sara sighed with relief.
Sara: that was close. Now to get Sama out…
She runs back to the castle to come up with a plan…
The next day…
Sara is running towards the tower of London. She knocks on the door and the guards let her in. she runs to Sama’s cell.
Sara: Sama! I have good news and bad news.
Sama: what is it Sara?
Sara: you are innocent! Your DNA wasn’t on the bottle of poison. But it was Samuel’s… he wanted to make sure we were both executed.
Sama: Samuel did this. He is the one who is truly greedy.
Sara: yes. He tried to do it to me too. He killed himself in front of me in hopes that the townspeople would see him dead at my feet and take me away to be executed as well. I hid the body before they could see it. He did this to you so that you would be executed. And now you will. But I’ll keep fighting for you, Sama, I’ll keep fighting.
Sama: why would he want to do this?
Sara: with us out of the way he would take over the throne. He wanted to be king. He was angry with mother for choosing you so he found out a way to get rid of you both. I don’t want to see you die though, Sama.
Sama: it’s too late now. They say I am to be executed tomorrow at 11:00. At least your still safe…you will be the last heir to the throne.
Sara: no! I don’t want to be alone! Sama please let me fight for you!
Sama: if you desire too you may. But I can’t say for certain if you will win.
Sara: I understand that, Sama. But I have to try.
Sara walks away and out of the tower of London. She makes her way toward the castle, only having a day left of time.
Two hours later…
Sara is in front of the Judge pleading for her sister’s life to be spared.
Sara: please, Sir! She is innocent! It was Samuel who killed our mother! Not she! Just please let her live!
Judge: I am sorry, Princess. But I already confirmed the sentence.
Sara: so there is nothing you can do?!
Judge: no, Princess. Nothing.
Sara runs out of the courtroom, crying.
The next day at 10:30…
Sara rushes up to Sama’s cell. She has only a half hour left of life.
Sara: Sama, I’m so sorry! I really did try to save you, I really did! But the judge would not listen to reason! Please forgive me Sama!
Sama: *smiles* it is okay, Sara. Mary will be there too. She will be helping in my execution. She didn’t believe Samuel either, but she was dragged into this by the judge. So I shall make it a goal to tell her sorry before I die.
Sara: Sama, I’m so sorry!
Mary walks in and looks at Sama.
Mary: Madame, it is time.
Sama nods and stands up.
Sara: no, I won’t let you take her!
Sama walks out and down the hallway to the guillotine while Mary follows her.
Sara: no, Sama!
Sara runs out and into the crowd that was to watch the execution.
Sara: please don’t!
Sama turns toward them in front of the guillotine and faces the crowd.
Sama: good Christian people! I have come here to die! If I have ever done anything to the townspeople or Samuel himself I atone for it now at the time of my death. Please, all of you forgive me if you can.
Sara: Sama…
Sama’s head goes through the hole in the guillotine and she looks to the crowd.
Sama: as I take my leave of the world and of you…I hurtfully desire for you to all pray for me.
Townspeople: lord have mercy…lord have mercy on your soul!
Sara: I’ll miss you…
Sama: Jesus Christ receive my soul. Lord have mercy on my soul. Jesus Christ receive my soul.
Executioner: Madame, forgive me for what I must do.
Sama looks at him, smiles, and nods.
Sama: gladly.
The executioner puts his hand on the rope and gets ready to pull the blade down on her head. Sama looks straight ahead and sees Sara crying in the crowd. She looks up and sees birds flying in the sky and smiles. The blade then falls.
Sara: Sama, no…
The blade cuts off her head.
Sara: no! Sama! No! Why?! Why did you have to go?! Why?! No!
Sara’s eyes then go wide and she faints.
Sama narrating: I remember fainting after Sama was killed…I woke up in the year of 2050. In front of me was a handsome face with blue eyes and blonde hair. He said his name was Umada Zarlamoy. I became his maid. I took the name of my executed sister. I took the name…Sama Sotoko.
