Near the cabin where the first battle was fought, incinerated bodied of the Malumtis Empire lay in the ground, the bodies still alit with char and minor flames. The cabin, much like the Militia, was unharmed by the column of fire. Somehow, when the column hit the ground, it weaved around the warriors of the Militia, and left them unharmed, burning all Malumtis in its patth. Rachel's weakness is Dark magic, therefore, Sonic can erect a barrier around Rachel to protect her from the Dark magic in the atmosphere around them. (this cant, however, protect her from Dark energy directed at her by an attack)

Reason #2:
The only thing that Sonic can't do, is swim, henceforth, Rachel, being part mermaid, can work with sonic when forced into an aquatic environment.
