Many people have their own ideas on what a sonic character looks like, and most of those people (Outside of this club which thankfully is not included in that group. You guys rock for that by the way ^^.) feel they can say what IS and ISN’T sonic-like.

They say what the…
~Bodies should look like
~The powers should be
~The animals they should be
~The SPECIES they should be
~Etc.

BODIES
The Sonic anatomy is the following
FURRIES! THE SONIC FRANCHISE IS ANTHROPOMORPHIC ANIMAL CHARACTERS! You can draw them how you like.

Certain animals like
~Hedgehogs
~Foxes
~Echidnas
THEY have a specific look, but while I myself will always stay to those specific looks for them, you can have your own version if you like.

Species like Cats, Lynxes (sub-cat-category), squirrels, and more have many different type so of appearances. Big the cat and Blaze the cat do NOT look alike aside from maybe they’re tails, even if Big wasn’t fat, and the Felade from the Sonic comics look NOTHING like Blaze.

You can draw them as you like. The only staples in the franchise would be the big heads, and they don’t always have to be that big anyway. You don’t have to make large hands, or feet, or always give them separately-shaped-muzzles. As long as it’s in the Sonic Universe it’s Sonic-related.

POWERS
They’ll say to keep to specifics, and It’s impossible to please everyone. DON’T USE CHAOS ENERGY, USE CHAOS ENERGY, DON’T USE ELEMENTS, BE A PYRO! It’s silly. It’s the common want for originality that no one can always get right. As long as it’s not an obvious copy of powers, like two tails, then it’s fine. Giving a character speed isn’t’ copying Sonic, it’s a common power that people like. And if they’re faster than Sonic, you’ll have to take it up with them if it’s Gary-stu/Mary-sue-like or not, but aside from that it’s fine.

ANIMAL TYPES (For mobian characters)
Some people think you can only have animals that have appeared in the games, and some people think you can only have the three mains (Hedgehog, Fox, Echidna). You can have whatever.

The evolution of Mobians was a chemical that covered the planet in a war, that changed animals, ALL animals, and let them talk and such. (IN THE COMICS!) Horses, Mice, Wolves, etc. You can use whatever, even bugs (Charmy). You are free to use whatever animal you want, you can even invent a new one, as long as it’s in some way mobian if you’re going to call it a mobian. That is to say, if you’re wanting a MOBIAN Sonic Fan Character, as opposed to a robot, you’d want to make it about the same basic structure as a normal mobian (head size, height, whatever), and then make whatever else you want to add. Also to make them mobian, (in my opinion) they would have to have some genetic relation to mobians, or the chemicals that started mobians, because if it doesn’t, why call it mobian? “But what if it’s not those things?” THE NEXT TOPIC WILL ANSWER THAT.

SPECIES
This is the main problem I’ve run into. As most know I have a species called “Identities”. But because they aren’t mobian, and aren’t a cannon-known-species in the sonic franchise, I was not allowed to post them on a Sonic Fan Character group on DeviantArt.

This is a sonic FAN character. FAN CHARACTER. As in something a FAN makes, NOT the main creators. Identities are composed of chaos energy, are connected to an actual cannon character, and interact almost all the time on Mobian planets, with mobians on them. They don’t have to be mobian themselves.

When I made the argument that Robots and Seedrains aren’t mobians, they said that those were known, so it counts. So? They weren’t always known. If you put them in something non-sonic related they wouldn’t be compared to Sonic at all. When people first saw them, they saw them IN Sonic-related shows and games. So of course they’re known. But just because you’re species isn’t a famously known one in the sonic franchise it’s not a sonic fan character? NO. IT IS.

YOU show it, and THEN it’s known, not the other way around. NO character should be belittled because it doesn’t “look” like a sonic character. Sonic fan characters (in my opinion) need to be only ONE thing to be Sonic Fan Characters

RELATED TO THE FRANCHISE. All they have to do is be in the universe of Sonic; a planet Sonic traveled to, Mobius, having chaos energy on a different planet, whatever you want.

If we were to make Sonic Fan Characters, and have them not be Sonic at all, they aren’t sonic fan characters, so don’t you think we’d make them Sonic related if it were something in that franchise?

The next time someone tells you that your character doesn’t count, unless they magically work for SEGA, kindly inform them that they are NOT SEGA, and therefore DO NOT make the rules.

COMPLETELY Realistic roleplays on our club are almost impossible, or at least in the sense that was talked about. Now that isn’t to say that there aren’t some very realistic supernatural roleplays; as long as you can scientifically explain it, or by other means explain it, then it’s technically realistic to an extent, but I suppose down-to-earth is more accurate a description.

This means roleplays that aren’t all high-scale and full of powerhouses; roleplays where you can interact with characters that don’t have supernatural abilities (or a small amount) without feeling dwarfed.

Chapter two
(Sept 10th Wednesday)

It was the next day, and Grace had already found something to do. During gym a boy that she heard others call “Slice” quickly became an enemy. He was a grey hedgehog, scrawny, with no hair, and a… free-spirit. Grace was about to go attempt some volleyball-playing when Slice walked up… and let out the contents of what reminded her of Rynk’s portrait all over her, stomach down. Usually one would apologize, or just collapse. But he just laughed then ran off, as he began to feel another outburst of lunch food erupting.

Personally Grace wouldn’t have cared...

Now, naming characters is hard, I'm gonna admit that, but hopefully this is an article on how to help you with that.

1. Relevance to Nationality and the Era they Were Born in

What nationality is your character? (If your character doesn't have a nationality, just ignore this) Are they Chinese, English, American? What names are more likely to be used in these areas? When were they born? What were the popular names of the time?

And easy answer to all these questions is research, and research is fun, there are plenty of baby naming sites, and records of popular names throughout time.

2. Random Words...

I plan on making a Mary Sue/Gary Stu test for everyone here. The way I will be doing it is you will check off whichever things portray to your character, and the resulting number will determine how stu-ish they are.

HOWEVER the difference with this one is that not only will there be things to check off to decrease the amount, AND there will be answers which count as more or less points than others, BUT IT WILL ALSO have secondary check-lists for those who DO have those attributes but not because they are stu-ish, but based on actual facts told to them by other users.

An example is “Does almost...
