Lana is in Paris and we discover she is seeing Jason Teague, who later follows her back to Smallville when she returns for her senior year. Clark is happy that she is back but doesn't know about her and Jason, as he is the high school assistant football coach and they have to keep their relationship a secret. When Lionel Luthor switches bodies with Clark, he walks in on Lana and Jason kissing in Jason's office. When Clark and Lionel switch back, Lana confronts Clark and asks him not to tell anyone about her and Jason, assuming he knew. Clark (Lionel) is shocked to hear it but agrees. They remain friends throughout the season until Clark tries to get back together with Alicia and Lana thinks she is still trying to kill her. Clark & Lana help each other out to save Jason & Lex's life in China. After this Chloe helps Lana begin investigating Jason and his mother, Genevieve Teague, and walks in on Jason assaulting Lionel and they eventually break up. After this Lana and Clark share a dance at the prom which Jason sees and leaves, and after Clark loses his memory he promises her that things will be different "this time".
