How do you think Simba new his way back to the pridelands from the jungle?

Thus, I think he remembered basically which way to follow the sun in order to return, and even though he likely was a little lost in the direction (having aimlessly wandered as a cub), the way could not be that long, as in he'd pretty soon end up where he wants to be.

Also, there could've been however minor landmarks along the way. And if I'm not mistaken, cats have an amazing sense of direction, and I don't see how that would not apply to lions too.

from right where he was standing? He probably would have had to go back threw the jungle to get back.

Maybe he did. We only see him leaving the are wherein he was with Rafiki.

Well the jungle was in the oposit derection of where he was going.

Not nescessarely. Simba could not possibly have walked straignt ahead all the time during his day or days on the desert when he was a cub.
