well, its not that he deserves to loose her, because if he hadn't lost lily, we would never see snape as what he is right now, loosing lily is a part of his story, if he hadn't lost her, i dont think we will know snape the way he is right now, maybe he is sad, but the thought of lily urges him to be better ..and if he hadn't lost her, then there will be no harry potter, no grumpy but loving snape, no snape fans feeling sympathetic for him..
loosing lily is just a good thing, snape needs to move on. i'd prefer snape finding another love, but bringing back the past and having her will entirely change the story.

i dont think he DESERVED losing the love of his life i just thnk it was better that way! Though i think the 2 of them being friends was really cool i dont think they could have made it as more! i mean i totally love Snape and i wouldnt have set him up with Lily because...
A)There would be NOO Harry Potter!
B)She was trying to change him(friend choices, personality ETC)
C)And she ditched him!!
ok so let me elaborate on B and C
In the 7th book it says in one of Snape's memories, that Lily didnt like the people he hung out with and said she didnt like it!
and then if she hated him and refused to talk to him because of one silly mistake that anyone could have made under that kind of pressure then she wasnt a very good friend!
Ok so i sound like a Lily hater and i am not! i just think that they wouldnt have made a good couple and that she was good with James. but i also think Snapes love and devotion to her was very sweet and he could have made it work!
none of the story could have happened if it hadnt been for the Lily-Snape dissagreement soo though i think it was really sad that he spent his whole life loving a girl that didnt love him back in the same way, im glad that it worked out that way because it showed a deeper more meaningful side of hisd personality! and i think towords the end J.K Rowling could have thrown a love interest in their even if she didnt elaborate on it!

I don't think he DESERVED it. No one, no matter who they are, deserves to loose their loved one and/or best friend. But I think it - eventually - made him a better person in the long run.

I don't exactly understand the question. By mistake do you mean Snape turning to the Dark Side or calling Lily a mudblood or both in themselves?
It is not a punishment from fate what happened to Snape and Lily, it's life. Couples get together and split up. That's the way it is. Lily did not leave Snape because she wanted to punish him or she thought that's what he deserved. Simply enough, she just fell in love with James Potter, so what? Shit happens. It's nothing like no other person has been dropped before by a girl he loved. I don't see the end of the world anywhere. The fact that Snape's crush for Dark Magic might have been a factor in the reason why Snape and Lily's friendship (or whatever it was) is again a rather general shit happening all around. The difference in morals and ideas is a common reason for people to break up. As for Lily's death, very sad and very tragic, but not because she died at the hands of her ex-boyfriend's boss but because her little boy was left an orphan. I know that Snape left the Death Eaters when he learnt that Voldemort was after the Potters, but that doesn't make him a saint out of blue since if Voldy was after any other family he'd have been glad to go along and help kill them. Very touching of him to love Lily so much, but he lost her years ago and that, people, was not something he deserved but life.
On this basis we could ask if Sirius Black deserved losing James Potter or Harry his parents. Shit happens, that's life. If Voldemort killed Lily to tear her away from Snape, then that'd be the issue of deserving. Like this.. I'm sorry but I don't think it's the right word here.

No he really shouldn't have but I believe her excuse of his mistakes was more than just that. Her statement about "my friends wonder why I'm even friends with you", indicates there was an influence from others there also. Plus I'm sure James was on the side lines talking him down and being young she was easily swayed against Severus. This also shows with her coming down on Sev for his friends practical jokes yet still went to James after his acts of terror and torture and bullying. It was a total contradiction and showed double standards.

No, he should've been given another chance at friendship and perhaps more. It's really sad. I've made a lot of mistakes in my life too and lost quite some friends because of it, which I truly hated because I probably would've stuck around instead. One of my (ex) best friends practically ignored me all year and my life was quite miserable at the time.

No, I don't think Snape did deserve to lose Lily. (I mean, I'm glad he did, even though we never actually met them I'm glad she went with James)
But I did feel really sorry for him especially because he loved her and she never even knew it. However, also the fact that he was a Death Eater was awful, their relationship would have never lasted and so, I'm happy that they didn't get together so they could avoid THAT heartache.

this type of answers are a little rude and insulting.... he's not an idiot. He makes mistakes, like everyone else. If anyone, Lily is the idiot, because friends forgive.... she didn't. She might have not loved him romantically, but she was supposed to be his best friend and she let him go just like that... So I think Severus Snape didn't deserve loosing Lily (in any way), but she was not worth him pain.

I am going to say yes, he deserved to loose her. Not trying to be the mean voice on here but I think it suits the characters better. Lily was a friend to Severus, then he ended up saying some pretty horrible stuff to her. I don't think being given another chance would have changed things, events would have eventually fallen into place accordingly. His character is not a result of just loosing Lily, but the result of all his actions. You shall reap what you sow.

No, he did not deserve it. If that's how it is, then Lily shouldn't have ever gotten with James in the first place seeing how he treated Severus while Lily and him were friends. Oh, but I get it...just as long as it doesn't happen directly to precious Lily then it's excusable...I get it. The truth is though, that Lily didn't deserve Severus at all; as a friend or possibly more if it had come to that. If he and Lily would have gone further she would have broke his heart anyway and still ended up with James, because as I've said before James and Lily deserve each other.

If Lily was as good as a friend she was thought of to be; she'd stay with Severus and understand why he did what he did. And she'd help him through his mishap. Just by reading his actions around Lily I could tell there was definitely something else going on. Ugh, she's as flawed as Severus is.

Maybe Lily had too many friends, she would never know how much a 'friend' meant to Severus. I'd say she was too young at that time.

You have to remember, that we are talking about the equivalent of high school relationships.

I don't think that Severus deserved the total loss of his only friend.

We also have to remember, Severus was the equivalent of 'the weird kid' in school, (which my group in high school was the ones made up of the oddball ones as well...LOL) and Lily sounds like one of the ones, while not popular, was friends with everyone, not one person singly.

So, here we have Severus who values probably the one good thing about his childhood, and once they reached school, how could he not have fallen in love with her, you could almost say obsessing about her, for her friendship and kindness to him.

And here's Lily, who has the great Quittitch Player James flirting with her, which makes her probably feel special, the only thing wrong with him is that he's so mean to her friend Severus and she doesn't know if he might be serious about her or not.

And here's James, that really likes Lily, and because he can see that Severus likes Lily, gets jealous of their friendship, even though Lily doesn't actually feel that way about Severus, it still causing him to focus his bullying on him cause he sees their friendship and Severus' interest as a threat to his relationship with Lily.

And Lily being basically oblivious to all the subtext of the fighting between James and Severus, comes in and a tense situation explodes. Its high school, looking back, everyone has situations from that time that they can't help but think they would have reacted differently, or done things differently.

With maturity, and time, I think Severus and Lily would have reclaimed their friendship. Lily would have always been the first love that Severus lost. Unfortunately, instead of just losing her to someone else and time, he lost her to death, and never had that chance to find closure to his feelings for her.

So, still my answer is no, neither Severus, nor Lily, or even James deserves for their life to be ended and their time lost because of a senseless death.

No, but I think he would have lost her friendship anyway. She was more important to him than him to her. In fact Lily wasn't really that good a friend to Snape. If she had truly been Snape's friend she would have forgiven him and she would not have had to stop herself from laughing at Snape when James hung him upside down. She also seemed to pay more stock to her other friends' opinions on Snape. Frankly I think it was a convinient excuse for her to end the relationship.

Yes 100% without a doubt no hesitation. Need I remind you that he essentially called her a racial slur hung out with people who wanted her and everyone like her dead and regularly used said slur against her friends.
" no listen I didn't mean"
" to call me mudblood? But you called every one of my birth mudblood Severus why should I be any different"
it's clear that this was not a sudden thing he had been hanging around the Death Eaters for a long time and Lily had had gotten sick of it for obvious reasons and when she complained about him again hanging out with people who wanted her kind dead he blew her off.
