Severus Snape & Lily Evans Question

What was your opinion on Lily before you read 'The Prince's Tale? How has it changed?

*
(This is kinda similar to the last question, but I was curious about both of them) I always admired Lily as a character (though like Sev I never really thought about her before the prince's tale), and she's still one of my fav. characters. I know she hurt Sev, but she was hurt, too. So he only real change the prince's tale made too my opinion on her was that it made me think about her more (and start writing fan fics on her (and Sev of course))

Severus Snape & Lily Evans Answers

I never really had much of an opinion on Lily. I respected her for giving up her life for her son, but that was about it. Before The Prince's Tale, we really didn't know anything more than that.

After The Prince's Tale I gained a very strong feeling of dislike for her. She is, in my mind, your stereotypical, shallow female. I respect her (how could you not, after she died for her son?) but I don't like her.

What do you mean "she's shallow"? She stood up for Severus when everyone around her was laughing at him.

She was shallow in a lot of ways - she berated Severus for hanging out with his friends because they were “evil,” but refused to use the same term about her fellow Gryffindors. She gave James – the star quidittich player – a chance, despite the fact that he was a bully who humiliated her best friend right in front of her (and never stopped, mind you). She abandoned Severus who, in a moment of frustration, humiliation, and wounded pride, called her a horrible name. She also accused him of using that term on others, with no evidence to back her claim.

Honestly, I didn't really have a definate opinion about Lily at first, because I didn't really know that much about her. After I read "The Prince's Tale", I thought Lily was very kind and generous, and she always did what was right no matter what other people thought.

I don't get why everyone hates on James. Yes, I know he was an arrogant, bullying toe rag, but remember I used the word WAS. In his final year, he straightened out, which made Lily get to know the good side of him. She never was "shallow@ or whatever else people made her out to be. The marauders pranked people but never did anything evil like Snapes friends did. She SACRIFICED herself for her son, which is an insanely good deed. She was a kind person who saw the good in everybody, as Lupin put it. She saw the good in Snape, she saw the good in James.
