Why can't you just say black? African American just limits it to people from the US.

Because I risk people calling me racist if I say black instead of African American apparently. Either way, it's a black woman. Besides, African American doesn't limit itself to just the US. So does Caucasian mean I'm not including white people from Europe or something? African American is just a name of a race that people prefer to call black people because it's not racist. Apparently, I can't win either way and will make someone upset.

^^ I heard from black people themselves that they would rather just be called black. Besides it isn't anymore racist then saying someone is white. Saying African American is like saying caucasian instead of white (but then again caucasian can include middle eastern people). It's not a big deal, more like a pet peeve.
