Random Question

Would you become a monster to protect the thing that mattered the most to you?

Just a question that came up in my randomly thinking mind. So just to establish something...

"Monster" - Something almost undeniably instinctually and naturally 'evil' or 'immoral' of sorts. Say something that had to kill to live or fed off the souls of people or perhaps had to lie and harm to live. Or perhaps have a constant instinctual urge to do so that if not satiated would cause immense pain or what not.

We arent talking the cool monsters like a werewolf or anything. Essentially become somethign others would fear and hate, and that you too might as well.

And when I say "The thing that matters most to you" I dont necessarily mean right now. You can interpret it as that, but what I really mean is that if there was something that meant the world to you and something that you committed your life to, would you do it?

And if you would do it, is that level of dedication something you think of being good or bad?

Honestly I dont think I have something Ive dedicated myself to that entirely that if I had time to think it over I would do it. There are things that mean A LOT to me, but personally I feel such a fate - given I cant kill myself - would be worse than death by a long shot. Perhaps if you asked my younger self who already saw herself as an evil monster if she would, it would be a yes, but I currently wouldn't want to be almost everything I despised and I really dont think Id be alright showing my face to the thing I care the most about. I honestly dont really think killing or anything is necessarily what would be enough to consider the monster but perhaps if you changed it to a bird killer or someone who had to torture or harm children or regularly betray and harm people that I cared for then.... I dunno

It would really depend but I think probably not. Certainly there would be better and perhaps even more efficient way to protect those things than to become undeniably evil. I mean I don't necessarily believe in objective evil but just in theory here.

That isn't to say that I wouldn't do something kind of immoral like kill in self defense or something in order to protect said thing, but become a literal monster beyond redemption? There must be a better way to go about things than that.

And if we were talking about, like, future children or family or something- which I imagine a lot of people would consider becoming a monster for- I don't think I would be comfortable with that, either. I would hate for the people that depended on me to lose me to a monster. I wouldn't want to take away the support that they needed from me, even if it was to protect them.
(Actually lowkey makes me think of, like, final fantasy x [spoilers for final fantasy x even though it's like 15 or more years old at this point] where its revealed that the mom of like the major antagonist gave her life in order to obtain a great power that he could use to protect himself because he was pretty descriminated against for lore reasons but like he goes fucking nuts)

So yeah

>implying I'm not already a monster

Look, if I had to do it to protect my daughter, I fucking would, I don't care if I have to murder innocent people, I care a hell of a lot more about her than I do any amount of innocent people. I've already decided this. I've done similar things, harming people just for one purpose and one only. I don't care
