The Story
Okay, when I first watch this film, I thought that Walt Disney Studios took inspiration from Quest for Camelot when they were doing Mulan. In terms of story-line, the only difference is that Mulan's dad wasn't killed and that he was old to join the army against Huns. So his daughter, Mulan disguises herself as a man and takes his place!
In this film, Kayley's dad is killed and it was really sad for the family, Kayley was only a little girl when it happens. Like Mulan, she went on a risky mission to restore peace for both China and Ireland.
The Characters
Talking about the characters themselves, Mulan and Kayley have some similarities with one another. Being an only child of the family, they're also concern for their loved ones, especially with Mulan's relationship with her dad and Kayley's relationship with her mom. The only difference is that Mulan failed at the Matchmaker and she feels sad about it, prompting her to please her family by helping her dad in the army.
Shan-Yu's and Ruber's motives are the same, except that the former is scarier while the latter is comedic at times.
The only difference are both Captain Shang and Garrett, the former is justifiable because he is in the military following his father's footsteps. While the latter unfortunately was blind since young, despite this, Garrett knows self-defense.
The Music
The music and songs are partially different, Mulan is more upbeat and sad at the same time. Whereas in Quest for Camelot, the music are also memorable like Mulan. 'The Prayer' and 'Reflection' are both the most popular cover songs to day, when I first watch this film. I didn't know that Celine Dion was Juliana's (Kayley's mother) singing voice!
'Reflection' boasted Christina Aguilera's career as a singer, and I'm very happy for her.
