I know most of you here are pretty big queen fans, but I know some are relatively new to the music and fandom. If you are one of these people, this article is for you. this is just a general summary of a bit of queen history. To start off, Queen was a band formed in 1970 with Freddie Mercury as the frontman, Brian May as the guitarist, Roger Taylor as the drummer and John Deacon as the bassist. Before the band, Freddie was an artist, John was an engineer, Roger was a dentist, and Brian was an astrophysics scientist. They all met in London and had a passion for music, forming the band Queen - one of the most successful bands in history. They released their first and second albums in 1971 and 1973, but they weren't very successful. Their first big hit was Killer Queen on their third album: Sheer Heart Attack, released in 1974. But their biggest hit had to be Bohemian Rhapsody on their next album: A Night at the Opera in 1975. Things only got better. every album had a hit. Somebody to Love became a hit and Freddie's "We are the Champions' and Brian's 'We Will Rock You" have become some of music's most recognizable songs. People worldwide loved Queen's music- but suddenly things took a change. When 1980 rolled around, The press released news that Freddie was gay, although this may not seem like a big deal, people were in rage. Some radio stations refused to play Queen and stores would stop selling their records and CDs. In 1984 with their hit "I Want to Break Free", The music video shows the members of the band in drag. Though England knew they were making fun of a soap opera, North America banned them from touring in their country because people viewed them as crossdressers, transvestites, and a bad influence on the young. But Queen just happily toured in Europe. Sadly in 1987 Freddie was diagnosed with AIDS and Queen Was slowly coming to an end with two more albums. When 1991 came, Freddie released the message that he had AIDS a little under 24 hours before he died on November 24 1991. Though he is dead, many tributes and events are held for Queen to make sure The Legacy Continues!
