Aidan Turner has been getting pulses racing since he appeared as shirtless, scything enthusiast Ross Poldark in the BBC adaptation in 2015.

But the actor has adopted a cheeky trick to make him look taller on screen.

Turner, who is actually six foot, admitted that he rides a smaller horse, after being convinced he looks better on it.

, Turner was originally riding a horse called Jonny Wilkinson, but later switched to one called Seamus on the advice of his trainer.

"He said, \'You look great on Jonny, but you look better on Seamus – he\'s smaller, so he makes you look bigger.\' I immediately switched horse!

"He certainly knew what to say to convince me," Turner revealed.

He added that he\'s actually developed quite a bond with his steed, adding: "When you\'re filming with a horse and putting your life into his hands, you have to trust him and I completely trust Seamus.

"He is so experienced – his CV is probably better than mine! He\'s a big celebrity these days."

actor also admitted that he felt pressure to look good while riding, adding: "When I took this job I had to get very good, really quick.

"But there\'s nothing like the pressure of having to fake it! I didn\'t have time for Seamus to call me out as a rookie."

The BBC recently unveiled new pictures of a shirtless Turner to whet viewers appetites before the show returns later this week.

However, not everyone was happy with the "double standards" after the snaps were splashed across news outlets everywhere.

Poldark returns to BBC One on Sunday, June 10. The series airs on PBS in the US.
