Pokemon Sapphire? huh?

Ok, I strted up Pokemon Sapphire Version today and it came up with this message saying "The internal battery has run dry. The game can be played. However, clock-based events will no longer occur." What does it mean? and will it affect anything in my game? Plus I haven't played Sapphire for a while now, and I'm still doing the story on it.
