THAT’S WAR

We’re between the lines
They fire, we fire, they fire, we fire again
Suddenly someone shouts there’s a plane coming
Get down but it’s too late

Someone’s dead they shot him
At first, you take no notice
But then you look again and find
Its your best mate who you
Were talking too just minutes ago

It’s getting dark and cold
You start firing again
And the cry goes up
We’ve hit some of their tanks
You shout hooray
That’s two more down you say

You sit there there’s not a sound any where
You start to think
It’s not been this quiet for ages when it all

Starts up again
That’s war for you

This was written back in 1991 when another war was just starting.

I was 16 and weeks away from leaving school this poem was part of my English course work.
