They had known each other for a long time; passing each other in the halls and seeing each other at the school basketball games.
Jake and Peyton were not always the way they are now.
He was the mysterious guy who always had to leave basketball practice early, and she was a moody artist who was into Lucas.

He told her the reason why she came back was to be with her. It wasn't a grand, public kiss. It was the most private thing in the world that's theirs, and that's why he won Peyton from that moment on.

It came out of the blue but the build-up was actually perfect.
With Jake, Peyton didn't have to pretend this relationship to be more than it is, as she usually tends to do. She's afraid of the emotional investment it takes. But being held by Jake, she finally faced that fear and surrendered herself completely.
And so they lay there, content in each other's arms.

When he left her because of his problems with Jenny's custody, he made sure he comes back for her because, as expected, Peyton self-destructed and the one person who saved her, made sure she won't do something like taking cocaine again, is Jake.
He took her and consoled her. He made her feel strong on her own, to let her discover herself the right choices to make, and that crying won't help her make the right choice.
He taught her to grow emotionally and to believe that even by herself, she can make things better.

Peyton's relationship with Jenny, Jake's daughter. She was so amazingly beautiful when she cares for this baby She has never been so capable of giving love exclusively and unconditionally than when she's with Jenny.
She fought for the little girl's welfare and learned to put herself out there. Peyton's greatest moment is whenever she's with Jake and Jenny.

"Yes, losing your heart's desire is tragic. But gaining your heart's desire? That's all you can hope for. This year I wished for love... to immerse myself in someone else and to wake a heart long afraid to feel. My wish was granted. And if having that is tragic, then give me tragedy. They talked about each other in their videos, proclaiming that they are each other's happiness.
If they could be together someday, somehow, they might just watch the said videos and celebrate the love they built together all over again.
