it wasn't that random. they made deb tie in with the haley/jamie/carrie storyline.
deb had that convo with carrie at the park, and she knew dan would never go to a hospice. then she knew the address was faulty and then she found the pic of carrie and knew something was up.
it may have been a bit unrealistic, but it's tv.

It was awesome, that's right...but I think it was weird nevertheless. That conversation between her and Carrie was strange but what tipped her off? : D I'm sure Deb didn't even know a thing about Carrie, I mean why Carrie wasn't Jamie's nanny anymore...and then she saw that picture of Carrie...aw, I think it didn't make sense! xD But I still loved it ( =
