This is a follow-up on one of my previous theories: Thirteen is secretly rich. I still believe this, and even though her house wasn’t a mansion like I was hoping it would be (though I sort of knew in the back of my mind that if it was a mansion they wouldn’t let us see it so soon), the possibility is still there.
Thirteen is younger than twenty-eight, most likely twenty-seven. This means that she was fresh out of medical school only a year ago and she should still have an extensive amount of dept. There are several options, and all three, because of the size of her apartment, support my theory.
1. She is still in dept
2. She had little or no dept
3. She did have a large dept but was able to pay it all off
1. She is still in dept
Medical school is expensive, so unless Thirteen is very wealthy, the option that she is still in dept is the most probable option, but still being in dept. This would mean that she shouldn’t be able to afford a nice apartment, because many doctors graduate from medical school with hundreds of thousands of dollars in dept. If Thirteen still has dept, the fact that she owns a nice apartment is suspicious.
2. She had little or no dept
If Thirteen was able to pay for medical school on her own or almost entirely on her own, that almost proves my point by itself. There isn’t much explanation needed. Many people going through only four years of college, as opposed to the eight she would have had, on a loan barely get by. The fact that she could have paid for it on her own shows that she would have to be wealthy.
3. She did have a large dept but was able to pay it off
If Thirteen was in a lot of dept but was able to pay it all off, this indicates that she recently and unexpectedly came into a large sum of money, because if she’d had that kind of money while she was in medical school, more likely than not, she wouldn’t have had a large dept. This set f circumstances would indicate that her wealth is newly acquired.
There are of course, other option, like that someone else paid for her medical school or someone else is paying for her apartment. Even if this is the case, that would connect Thirteen to some wealthy people, either someone with enough money to pay eight years tuition, or someone who can pay for a second house/apartment without a problem.
Even though her apartment didn’t indicate wealth out of context, in context it is very telling, and helps my theory to fit better than it did before.
