First, i've got to precise i haven't read the novel, so maybe that's the reason why i've got these interrogations.
In the Volume III, we don't see Virgilia or Billy, and we don't know what happened to them.
So i was wondering if there's someone who know that ...

Brett and Billy settle in the West (Oregon Trail). Virgilia has already died - she was hanged for shooting/killing Sam Greene (the senator she befriended and had an affair with) after he insulted and dumped her. Toward the end of Book II.

Billy and Brett moved to California, where he became an engineer, after the Civil War. Brett returned to Lehigh Station in Book 3 to attend Constance's funeral.

Virgilia was executed for the murder of a congressman named Sam Greene in the last episode of Book 2.

How things evolve in the book and in the miniseries, is very different. For example, in the miniseries, Virgilia dies while in the book, she lives and even gets closer again to her brother George. I prefered the book even if the miniseries cast, acting, costumes, settings were definitely great. I love that series only for that. But I don't like it much when books are not respected, especially in a miniseries where screenwriters have enough movie duration to follow the book closely. Just my opinion.

You should hate Book 2, which inflicted more changes than Book 1 or Book 3.

Book 2 changes actually worked for me, a few Book 3 changes didn't

Really? I thought Book 2 was a mess with its sloppy writing, changed storylines and contrived dialogue. Only the battle scenes somewhat saved it.
