I'm not going to repeat my post but I will state again that this episode was defiantly one of the weaker ones.
Well... sort of
I loved Iron Will, and as with every episode, there were a few dozen little things I found interesting, surprising, or hilarious throughout it.
(E.g., Bon Bon's voice--what the hay?! Did she get a larynx swap or something?! And lawl, why is Ponyville suddenly full of "valley ponies?" XD AND, of course, Fluttershy could've just flown over the carts...)
The "Flutterbully insults Rarity & Pinkie and makes them cry" scene was well done, if painful. "Flying feather," lol. (She becomes so strong when she goes monstrous, and cuts ponies to the quick! :0 Dang, Fluttershy, you scary! Kinda like those goat assistants...but I digress...)
Pinkie and her Looney Tune-esque antics never fail to amuse.
I think that because Fluttershy was Iron Will's most extreme case of all time and had SOOOO far to go to become assertive and be able to stand up for herself, that the intensity and harshness of his methods simply caused her to snap and become the opposite of her true self. After all, the rage of "New Fluttershy" was no mere expression of repressed annoyance, irritation, & anger. It was cutting, cruel, incisive, biting--so utterly unlike our Fluttershy. I almost expected Pinkie's hair to deflate/go flat!
Overall, it was a bit like the "Walking Small" episode of Spongebob: overly kind character receives lessons in assertiveness, which backfire in a big way. Discord must have been proud.
The ep was great enough that I didn't really even miss my three favorite ponies (Rainbow, AJ, & Twilight.) Rarity and Pinkie helped Fluttershy through well enough on their own. One of my issues was with the ending...I thought Fluttershy should have explained to Iron Will the reason for her dissatisfaction. He didn't seem like that awful a guy, in the end, and it's usually a good idea to let a businessperson (uh, pony...er, Minotaur...!) know why their product or service met with disapproval and is not being paid for. I'd have expected Fluttershy to calmly and simply explain to him, instead of just letting him leave all confused like that.
Pinkie's demand of the lower price was also kinda questionable, I felt. Very funny scene, but prices do change sometimes, and needless to say, it's not always okay to say, "No, you HAVE to accept the old one!" Not the first time I've suspected that Pink could use a correction that never came.
P.S. get over the cart thing, fluttershy doesn't like to fly; why do you think she doesn't live in cloudsville?
@randompanda: It's not that I disagree with what you think of the cart thing, but Rainbow Dash loves to fly and she lives in Ponyville.
@randompanda: Yeah, not all Pegasi live up there; I'm sure most don't, as it's not that huge compared with the land area of Equestria. Dash visits it more often, but both have their own reasons for now calling Ponyville home instead. They're still free to fly as much as they need or want to.
"Old Fluttershy" would have quietly and unassumingly flown over the carts instead of demanding or even asking anypony to move out of her way. What a difference. She doesn't love flying as much as most Pegasi, and sometimes she gets too scared to even be able to do it...but we see her doing it very happily quite frequently. It's just that her insecurities and anxiety get the better of her at times, and this can cause her wings to clamp. I imagine that flying, although an innate ability for Pegasi, still requires some amount of confidence--to be done well, at least. Flutter is better at it when she's relaxed.
