I'm not against her becoming a princess, I just think she didn't need the wings. She was perfectly capable as a unicorn, her becoming an alicorn is just plot development for her character.

She doesn't need them, though they are a nice touch.
Alicorn Twilight isn't different from the old Twilight we still know and love. She has big wings and is slightly taller, but inside, she's the same quirky know-it-all from season 1 and 2.

I agree with Sapling. It was a lot for me to take in at the end of Season 3, but I managed to come to piece with it. She didn't need a pair of wings to confirm her great qualities, but Hasbro is still a toy company and little girls love Princesses, so they had dollar signs in their eyes when they decided to make Twi an alicorn. Although I was relieved to see, that they didn't change her character and implemented this big transition into her personality almost perfectly. So it was easier for me to accept that she's an alicorn Princess, because she's still that nerdy librarian I know and love. :3

I just happen to like her more as an alicorn.
