My Little Pony Friendship is Magic Question

How can people be so obsessed with a show that came out so recently?

I know that would have made a lot more sense if I had asked it in 2010 but how can you be so obsessed with it when there were so many other good shows and movies before it? When you were watching Shrek Forever After in theaters this show didn't exist! Maybe for a person who was born after 2004 it could makes sense but you have better things to remember! I don't see what's so special about this show. You would rather reminsce about the pilot episode of MLP:FiM than Shrek Forever After?

The reason is because the show has better writing. Yes, it came from G3 (Which even we do not wish to talk about), but the show has some amazing writing, fun characters, witty humor, and is able to have moral lessons for children, and dozens of movie references for adults. The voice actors are all very well known for voicing hundreds of animated characters in the past. And the creators of the show are very loyal to the fans, young and old, doing what they can to please them and even make some things spawned from the internet into a reality. Sure, there are some bad fans in this fandom, but not every fan is awful (Surprisingly). Besides, there are fans of much worse things. And even though you may not like this show, we all, as a fandom, do

Well, as many people here know, I used to be a media analyst, thus, I have encountered all kinds of media products on a massive scale. and by massive, I mean that i have seen the very best and the very worst mankind has to offer and mostly everything in between and let me tell you: MLP is one of the best shows I have ever encountered over the years.

Why I like it so much?

- MLP offers a set of diverse, DEEP characters people can actually relate to
- there is continuous character development. some characters develop more than others, it's still a progress nevertheless
- human like characters with flaws and real emotions
- outstanding voice cast with talented, veteran voice actors
- pop culture references
- amazing animation, especially when it comes to facial expressions and background scenes
- clever writing and humor
- mutual, reciprocal, two-way relationship between the staff and the fandom
- the fandom itself, filled with great, very kind and talented people

Plus, I have never been too keen on Shrek. no offense, but I'd take MLP any day. :)

Personally, i'm obsessed with it, but there are so many other shows i'm ALSO obsessed with
Like Doctor who and Bones~

I find it special because the animation is amazing, I love the characters and how they develop. I feel I can relate to many of them too.
I also never really was a fan of the Shrek series...

Why would timing have anything to do with it? When something comes out doesn't really detract from the appeal of a show or movie. Would you have said the same thing of any "classic" show 5-6 years after its release? I think it's very shallow to think "This thing's new, it sucks."

You're acting like a toddler, honestly. "Wah! Mommy, I don't like change! I want my tom and jerry (which is actually a good show, i'm just using it as an example), not this new thing!"

I don't even like the Shrek stuff that much...especially now that Shrek has been the subject of some of the memes i always see.

I like MLP because:
1) It serves as some form of bonding for us cousins since we don't really hang out much due to technology. (sad but true)
2) Some characters are relatable...for me it's Twilight or Fluttershy.
3) The continuous improvement of the storyline.
4) Development of the animation since it's first release.
5) Great music despite being a "cartoon" (not saying all cartoons have bad music though, even Tom and Jerry uses stuff from Classical and Romantic Periods) as well as adding in some references in the show for fun.

Okay, I hope no one thought that was my answer. ;P
The reason why MLP is oh-so universally loved is because of it's unique and entertaining way of delivering important life lessons. It deserves all the attention it gets and so much more. Neither Shrek, nor how old it is has absolutely nothing to do with it, nor is it even bad. The fact that it has gained so many followers in a much shorter time than other forms of media just goes to show it is worth its "adoration". It manages to utilize its qualities and conveys its points in a magnificent way. Just because one person doesn't see the big deal doesn't mean thousands of others do not. Really, it's actually a great series! 👍
Oh, and yes. I would rather reminisce the pilot of MLP:FiM than Shrek Forever After~ ♡

I actually laughed aloud reading that. Anyway, the answer is simple. I like things from various time periods. I watch MLP. I watch Star Trek Voyager. I listen to Frank Sinatra. I play Fallout. I enjoy a lot of media which came out in a bunch of different little time-chunks or whatever, and when they came out doesn't matter at all because what matters is quality, and anyone who thinks otherwise is as dumb as they are stupid.
