My Little Pony Friendship is Magic Question

What's with all the Spike abuse?

I mean, seriously. Getting ordered around and cleaning up other ponies' messes is one thing, but he also gets hurt all the time and nopony seems to give two hoof pincers about that. He gets ignored when he's sick, he gets slammed into things, he gets hit in the head with a rock as big as his face (and gets told to concentrate, while he's on the floor all dizzy), he writes so much his wrist starts swelling (again Twilight doesn't care, while she could have easily used her magic to write in the first place), he gets used against his will as rodeo material and so on.

I'm not sure about that. But, I know Spike appreciates all the hard work that he is given.

He's also an incredibly annoying character that never shuts up so you know, it kinda evens out.

He's quite helpful, though. Everypony always seems to expect him to act as mature as the mane 6, but he's a baby dragon and the mane 6 are like young adults. If you compare Spike to the other kids in the show he's pretty mature. I mean, the CMC, Snips and Snails, Diamond Tiara and Silverspoon are much more annoying if you ask me. Yet them and Spike should be around the same stage in childhood.

It's personal opinion at this point, i find spike just as annoying (or more) as those young ponies. The fact that he "works" for twilight doesn't make him more mature.

I respect your opinion. Just saying he's got some redeeming qualities too. :)

I think it's just because he's a dragon and a little tougher than some of them . . . or because the script writers hate dragons.

That's a problem I had with the ending to Winter Wrap Up. Yes, Spike behaved impishly during that episode but he did do some nice things (how many friends would give someone a bath when they got skunked?)
I think it was terrible that Applejack noticed he was in a dangerous situation (sleeping on ice that was rapidly melting) but she did nothing to help him, only laughed. AJ's skilled with a lasso, she could have pulled him to shore. It's also troubling that none of the nearby pegasus or unicorn ponies who could more easily rescue him offered to help, either. (Magic might have been forbidden on that one day but pegasus flight sure wasn't outlawed.)
Not only was Spike clearly sick at the end, but he was still attempting to write down Twilight's friendship letter for her, and the only reaction she had was to chuckle softly when he fell asleep again? She could have at least offered to tuck him in bed.
I'd love it if a fan decided to write an epilogue where Twilight, Rarity, Applejack, Fluttershy- take your pick, it could be anypony- actually shows some concern over Spike's cold and gives him medicine and whatnot.

My idea is that ponies are extremely racist, (which has been somewhat proven to an extent) and as such do not care about the wellbeing of other species. Equestria is supposed to be a land of "harmony" and "friendship", but do you ever really see species other than ponies? For a country that's supposed to be so peaceful, I find it a little suspicious that you'll hardly see any creature other than ponies. I know there are few, like Spike or Cranky Doodle Donkey, but they're a minority. It seems like the equestrians are deliberately trying to avoid everything (and everyone) else. On a (somewhat) unrelated note, another case of spike abuse/neglect, is when he saved the whole crystal empire, and did he get appreciation or recognition? NO! Also, Twilight has never said "thank you or "I appreciate you working so much for me without getting anything in return and being manipulated by others (especially that little prissy bitch Rarity) into doing what they want with no gain for you except false hope that you're actually cared about instead of practically being a slave."

Because getting an entire statue of himself isn't appreciation. Right. And also, Twilight is kinda like a sister/mother to Spike. You're telling me that a parental guardian NEVER gives chores to the child? And it's not like Spike is shown to be hurt, or even complaining. If you don't complain, PEOPLE WON'T KNOW YOU'RE HURT. Besides, Spike always looks HAPPY to lend a hand

And, actually, when have the Mane 6 been given any sort of recognition whenever THEY save Equestria? Sure, CELESTIA gives them recognition, but I have never seen other ponies celebrating the mane 6 or thanking them. Plus, when he saved the Crystal Empire, Twilight said to Celestia, "It wasn't me who saved it in the end. It was Spike." And, at the end of Lesson Zero, Twilight gives Spike a big hug as a thank you. And it's not like Spike has ever been pressured into doing things FOR the mane 6. Whenever Spike is doing chores, it's usually when Twilight is too busy to do them herself. Spike is HAPPY to help. We learned that from Power Ponies. Speaking of which, remember this line? "In our world, Spike always comes through for us in the end. ALWAYS." Yep, Twilight definitely doesn't care about him.

Because Lauren Faust is a Feminist, and Spike is male. Even in her non-MLP works like Powerpuff Girls and Them's Fightin' Herds (Book of Lore), she beats up male characters a lot.
