The movie is called 'A Bronx Tale', and the father (Lorenzo) is portrayed by Robert De Niro. His son in the movie is named Calogero (think portrayed by several people as he was growing up). It also has a mobster in it (Sonny) portrayed by Chazz Palminteri. Calogero's parents really love him, but Sonny has also taken him under his wing. There's kind of a competition between the father and Sonny throughout, but both of them are trying to teach Calogero what they think is important in life. I won't give away any more of the story, but I really love this movie. It's a wonderful bonding and coming of age film at the same time. This was also De Niro's directorial debut (1993). posted over a year ago.
