As any great director or angry YouTube commenter will tell you, editing a movie trailer is a delicate balance. On the one hand, you have something like
: enough flashes of action and dialogue to tease you, but not so much that you won\'t be sat in the cinema, excitedly holding popcorn, the very moment it opens.
And on the other hand? Most recently you have the trailer for Zack Snyder\'s
 - which cleverly manages to give away not only the real villain, but also the plot of all three acts in their entirety. Oh, and the abilities of a key additional character. #Trailerfail indeed.
And yet the two Caped Crusaders are not the first offenders. Prepare yourself for big spoilers (although the studios did get there way ahead of us, to be fair), and follow us into a nightmare world where the trailer gives away far, far too much...
Revealing that saviour of mankind John Connor has been replaced by a Terminator would be a pretty neat twist. Neat, that is, if we hadn\'t watched the trailer already (and even director Alan Taylor is on record complaining about this).
So... the whale does get away in the end then? Thanks. Of course, the real twist is that there\'s a bed of spikes hidden behind that wall. Only kidding! It\'s more sea.
upset viewers by revealing that Sam Worthington\'s character was secretly a salvation. No, wait, a terminator.
The tense will-they-or-won\'t-they around the escape from the rigged bus was ever-so-slightly spoiled by a shot of hostages watching from safety as said bus explodes.
gives away all the film\'s beats, including the ending with its iconic line. Forget it, Jake... or you\'ll see everything coming when you watch the actual movie.
Michael Bay\'s 2005 action sci-fi spins around a neat little mystery. Or at least it would, if the trailer wasn\'t so careful at spelling out exactly what is going on. If there is no actual island, is there any point in watching the film?
Gee, wonder how the story of a young outcast with psychic powers will end... A massacre, you say? (And we know the cat was well out of the bag by that point, but the 2013 remake insisted on doing exactly the same thing.)
The death of Sean Bean\'s 006 at the beginning of Pierce Brosnan\'s first James Bond outing would be more shocking if we didn\'t already know that he survives. Oh, and he\'s the villain too, FYI.
It\'s Kevin Spacey versus Samuel L Jackson! In a heart-stoppingly tense stand off! As a skilled police negotiator
takes hostages and has to be negotiated with... oh. No, wait: according to the trailer, Spacey ends up joining forces with SLJ. So... not that tense then. Thanks - that\'s £8 of cinema ticket saved.
