I personally think that Tim Burton made Batman, and Gotham city more memorable and his characters were more than one dimensional. The only two characters that went the extra mile in Nolan's were Gary Oldman as Commissioner Gordan and Heath Ledger as a different take on the Joker. But unlike Burton's Batman Michael Keaton, Christian Bale, never really had a whole lot of depth to him, and his voice often sounded a little too raspy. Don't get me wrong I like the movie's and own the first two ( haven't got the last one yet). But I just feel like there is more chemistry between Michael Keaton and Michelle, Michael and Jack, Michael and Danny, the fighting scenes, the music, the costumes, and not to mention Gotham City actually looks like it lives up to its name in the Burton movies instead of just looking like Chicago or New York which is not much fun. I may get some back lash here, but Even Tommy Lee as Harvey Dent, Uma Thurman as Poison Ivy, Arnie as Mr. Freeze, and Jim Carrey as the Riddler were good,( I do prefer Tom Hardy over the gross Bane)- the direction wasn't the best, but the movies are still enjoyable popcorn flicks, - it didn't help that there was a new Batman, every movie after Keaton either.
The one villain that I think is underrated after Danny and Michelle is Uma. I think she is almost as seductive as Michelle and is pretty darn close to the comic book Ivy. Another couple things about Nolan's that I don't like is the vehicles and costumes ( notice I said Burton's. Although I don't notice the "nipples" that much, I think people make too big a deal out of it.I think all the Villain costumes are very cool and well done). The ones in Burton's are more memorable, the Batman one's in Nolan's look like upgraded army wear. All in all they both have pro's and con's but in the end,- I think Burton captures the atmosphere of Gotham and Villains better, along with Better chemistry. And I also think Keaton will always be the better Batman, which is funny, because people had a cow about him being cast, thinking he would be too weird coming off of Beetlejuice.
