Moulin Rouge Question

Something that occurred to me....? About Satine.

If Satine was getting paid so much money and diamonds, as she's pretty much the most famous courtesan in Paris, why is she still living at the Moulin Rouge? Couldn't she have used all that loot to buy a house? And why did she need the Duke to make her acting dreams a reality? Many courtesans were also actresses, and they didn't need any Duke to help them out... This is just something that bugged me the last time I saw the movie.

Opinions?

its a movie.
A fantastic, wonderful, beautiful movie that i watch every day, but still.
Also, she would have to pay rent, so i guess its easier for her to stay at moulin rouge.
also, if she was to become an actress, no one would take her seriously. they would expect her to be a courtesan in everything she does.

Because of Harold, I think he wouldn't let her go by herself, and she was famous on the Moulin Rouge, so she had it all.
