(Part 1 of 2 of my extremely long answer. Please forgive haha)

Ok, let me make this clear, I LOVE MJ TO PIECES. Always have and always will. So please don't tear me up over this.

And in this picture, you can see a pack of cigarettes on his bedside table:

And in this interview, around the 3:18 mark, he does that smoking motion that he sometimes does, but to someone off camera. It's just my interpretation, but to me it looks like he is kind of signaling that he want to smoke with whoever it is when he gets a break. I think this because he is clearly making eye contact with someone and he his sorta nodding his head in whoever's directions.

I most defiantly don't think he was a regular smoker or even did it for more than a few years in the 80's, mostly because there would be more evidence if he did. And these are the only 3 things I have stumbled upon after 18 years of being a fan.

To me, it wouldn't be that much of a shock if he casually smoked for a few years for the following reasons:
1. He was a musician and was always surrounded by people who smoked a lot.
2. Smoking was less frowned upon in the 80's and most people (no matter who raised you or what your opinion ends up being of it) try it at least once in their life. And MJ falls in the category of a person. He WAS a human, by the way.
3. ALLLLLLLLLL PEOPLE have moments of weakness. There is no way that he was a flawless god-sent saint every second of his life from birth till death.
4. He led a busy and stressful life and A LOT of people turn to casual smoking to relax. Like I said, it was waaayyy less frowned upon back then than it is now.

It also wouldn't surprise me if MJ went well out of his way to hide it from his fans and family. This is because he tried very hard to be a good role model for his fans, and also I get the feeling that he parents would have given birth to a cow if they found out. This is because in an interview with Janet, she is asked if she ever smoked, and she says that she did once when she was 12 and now she was probably going to be screamed at by her mother for saying that. (This interview was with Tyra last year).

Personally, I believe that the version of MJ that all the public and his fans know is NOT the real him. Just Michael-Jackson-the-Preformer-King-Of-Pop. Not Michael Jackson the person. I think there is a lot about him that we will never know. I think that he worked hard to create this front/mask because he highly valued his privacy and personal life. I also believe that he was raised in a way that isn't very commonly done anymore. Where people don't wear their heart and feelings on their sleeves and have strong beliefs that there is a thick wall between what you do in the privacy of your own home with your close friends and family and how you behave in public. Basically how people acted in the early to mid 1900's. Yes, MJ had a lot of child-like qualities, but I also believe that he was an adult and acted like an adult. Don't even get me started on the topics of MJ and swearing, drinking, and sex. There is evidence out there of it all. And thats NOT A BAD THING. ITS NORMAL. NOOORRRMMMAALLLL. He just kept everything like that to himself and and his small circle of friends. And just because he said something once in an interview, doesn't mean he didn't change his mind later, was only telling the half truth or was twisting the truth to make the interviewer drop the subject (because that is VERY common among alllllll celebrities). I'm not calling him a liar, but he did once say that he "wasn't even taking Tylenol, Aspirin or ANY drugs at all" when he broke his foot and was relying "meditating" for pain management. And guess what? He died from drugs. And the reason why i am not calling him a liar is because he was probably protecting himself from being attacked by the media for just being a real human and giving into the pain meds again. Once again, please don't kill me for expressing my opinion. I am 100% pro-MJ and I believe he was framed and taken advantage of and was totally innocent and was the greatest entertainer of all time and blah blah all that jazz. But I just can stress enough that he was a human just like you and me, not a pre-programmed robot. He had flaws like every human and I guess this is kind of straying really far from my original point of him smoking haha. But my overall point is this: Is it really so wrong and impossible if he ever smoked a few times in his life? And even if he did say that he hates smoking once in an interview, don't take everything he said in an interview (or anyone's interview for that matter) so literally. (and by the way, he NEVER ONCE said that he NEVER smoked, he said that he doesn't like it. I don't like smoking, but I have done it a few times.) People need to understand that no human in a one-dimensional flat magazine interview. Have you ever told someone you don't know a half truth because you simply don't feel its appropriate at that moment in time to tell the whole story? Or do you go into every last detail of your life every time you have a conversation with someone? Give the man a break. RIP MJ. Love you. ps. sorry i type so much people. it just really bugs me how some people can be so clueless and unperceptive.

dude not to be rude but that pack of cigarettets could have been jackies or titos or jermaines or even joes...it might have been someone elses bed you know and if michael was such a health jinkie why in the world would he smoke and him hiding things from his family oh come on michael loves his family andi think if we evr wanna know who the "real" michael is prince, paris and blanket know the real michael joseph jackson....i've only been a fan for last 8 years but yet i would not shine a negative light on him, not because i want to paint him as a goddes but because i know sooo deep down inside that michael's a strong character that won't depend on a stupid thing like smoking if he can fight off a massive court case he could kill stress like a fly and he won't need one puff of smoke

he wasn't a smoker. There would be obvious indicators that would show if he was, like yellow teeth, black lips, etc. and a nasty voice because of that smoke burning your throat. So..no he wasn't.
