i heard this on the radio and it's sad to me because those kids know who their real father is has anyone else heard about it?

I think this is selfish of Fiddes. He ought to think of what's best for Blanket, and not act only on his own wishes / feelings. I don't think it's good for a 10 year old to have to deal with something like this.
