I'm wandering, did Michael make Jheri curls popular back in the 80's( all around the world.)

I know this question might be random and sort of silly, but I just want to know how much popularity Jheri curls had had on society. maybe because Michael's sky high video, "Thriller" had encouraged this fashion.
