The cast of the Harry Potter films – including Matthew Lewis – were always generous in helping our organization grant wishes to young fans and in celebration of today’s new release, we would like to tell you about them.
In 2004 Kids Wish Network granted the wish of Alexandra, a Harry Potter fan suffering from spina bifida and hydrocephalus. Spina bifida is a birth defect that occurs when a portion of the spinal column fails to develop and close properly, and hydrocephalus is a condition in which the cerebrospinal fluid builds up in the skull. She has endured many surgeries and relies on a wheelchair for mobility.
For her wish, Alexandra was given the opportunity to attend the premiere of Harry Potter’s third major motion picture, The Prisoner of Azkaban, in New York City. First, on the red carpet, she saw actor Matthew Lewis (Neville Longbottom) along with one of the Phelps brothers (George/Fred Weasley). Though these two weren’t close enough to Alexandra for a meeting, Jamie Waylett (Crabbe) came around next and made his way over for an autograph and a photo.
Shortly following this, Alexandra’s favorite actor, Tom Felton (Draco Malfoy), walked straight over to her, greeted her with a kiss, and posed for several pictures with her! When Tom left to do some interviews with the press, she got to meet the Chosen One himself… a.k.a. Harry Potter… a.k.a. Daniel Radcliffe. He kindly shook her hand, signed an autograph, and posed for a few photos. Before the movie began, Tom came back to her for a second time to chat a bit more, but according to Alexandra, the only thing going through her mind was “Oh my god! Oh my god!!”
